I have to go to school for 3 months 1280 miles away. It was suggested I bring a car.

I drive my car daily 50 miles round trip. 1 weekend a month I drive 150 miles.

I have had this 240 for 3yrs and that is the most I have driven.

Specs; 1993 coupe convertEd 5 speed KADE 188k miles

Mods/repairs:
felpro head gasket / resurfaced head / ARP head studs
One injector replaced and all new injector seals installed
New alternator / starter/ water pump / optima red top
New plugs / wires / cap and rotor
New brembo rotors with ceramic pads
VLSD (180sx)

The bad:
Small oil leak from rear main seal. (I will try to fix before I go)
Power steering leaking from steering rack
Right rear wheel has a small bend so I get a lil vibration

So give me your opinion? Would you drive your 19yr old 240sx 1200 miles?

Fyi my wife says I'm crazy.

Sounds like the problems you're having with it are pretty minor. I would definitely fix the wheel before going on a trip like that though. Actually I'd fix the wheel anyways.

I've been daily driving my 93 SE hatch 5spd for 7 years now with absolutely no problems. That includes multiple Bay Area to L.A. trips a year. One time the radiator blew, but it was the original one so I couldn't really complain. Just maintain your vehicle and don't neglect minor issues like the ones you listed.

As long as you don't have the same luck as that guy a month or so back who drove 1-2k miles and wrecked 3 times, the final time totaling it.

You should be fine. If you are worried, stop half way through and let it cool for a while.
I drove my SR with 2 blown ringlands 400 miles round trip with no issues.

i daily drive close to 100+ miles almost each day and have done over 400+mi in one day on mine, for long trips i just take extra coolant, oil, PS and brake fluid.. and all misc items i might need in case of an emergency... this has saved me from having to pay for a tow dozens of times...

since u have those leaks those things will help you on the way just take extra better safe than sorry... about the wheel i would fix that... to much vibration can harm something if u leave it alone for a long time..

i wish i could drive my car that amount of miles, i have a bad back so i can't drive long hours like i used to when i was a teenager in this same car...

i picked up my beat ass ka24et in LA and drove to walla walla washingtonm, around a 1200 mile trip. It had a loose intercooler clamp that would shoot off everytime i went into boost and an air filter that was probably the dirtiest thing ive seen in my whole life. Looked like the car had gone to Pismo or something. . Since i didnt have any tools i used a penny to tighten the intercooler piping when it would come loose. Also one of the rims had a giant gash in it and the tore the sidewall of the tire too. Later on one of my spark plug wires melted on my headers and the car started misfiring like crazy. Luckily i had duct tape so i was able to fix it. KA's are tank motors and it takes a whole lot to stop them.

P.S. driving my car that far with all the problems pissed me the fuck off. I was angry like the whole time cuz i forgot to bring tools. So definitely bring tools, duct tape, and zipties.

i took my last s13 coupe from st lucie florida to huntington beach california, the LONG way. went up through atl, nashville, deals gap, then west. total of roughly 3k miles in 4 days.

i've also driven my s13 hatch the same start to finish, but the direct route on the 10 in 51 hours, that is only 2600 miles.

the kade is pretty much bulletproof in stock form. as long as it has good clean oil and you don't mess with it (not boosted or anything) it'll give you 300,000 miles with little or no fuss.

Drove my first S14 from NJ to Cali in a matter of 4 days...changed my oil when I left, changed my oil again when I got there since I clocked over 3100 miles. Then there's also multiple trips down to Tampa from FL. When I first got the car, I had 28k on it. Two and a half years later, drove cross country and I was sitting at 110k.

not an s chassis either, but i drove my altima ka with nitrous - sprayed in illinois against a honda - round trip from az to tennessee and then to new york and back. total of three trips - not one hiccup and managed close to 450 miles between fillups. dont knock the iron block nissan engines, they wont let you down if you maintain them. oh yeah, forgot about the same car but with a ka-t in it (same engine as when it had nitrous) pulling a trailer with my gixxer 1100 on it from ny to va and back. no hiccups there either.

You know what I've always wondered about that movie? If the eagles could fly in there and pick them up, why didn't the eagles fly them in there to destroy the ring? It would have taking three books and 16 hours of movie down to about six pages and a commercial length story.

Then why didn't it laser everyone at the gates when they distracted him?? I never saw this lasering effect. Plus eagles could have flown high, and then in a dive out of the sun came in fast and it would have been over before they were seen.

I drove my stockish (but frequently abused) 200k+ mile KA S13 1500ish miles from Riverside, CA, to East Texas. I only made a few quick stops for snacks, gas, and piss breaks. It took about 25 hours. The car did fine, save for some weird bogging while going through some elevation changes through Lincoln National Forest in New Mexico (12-13 hours in). After that, it was smooth sailing.

So to answer your original question... Yes, yes I would.

Thanks WHITECAR thats one heck of a road trip.....9400 miles wow.....

I am pretty sure I will be ok.....I mapped out the gas stations along the way. I should be able to get there in 4 stops....I think I get about 27miles to the gallon.....I probably can get better but I am heavy footed.

I plan on buying 2 tires for the rear....my pegleg wore out the left tire because of the slippery canyon i drive to go to work everyday....I will install the new VLSD on friday.

I will probably start another road trip thread?? :)

I drove mine 1000+ miles when I moved. I had everything I owned stuffed in there too. Guitars, amplifiers, guitar cases, gaming pcs, computer hardware and peripherals, clothes, tools, misc shit, etc.

The car had 200,000+ miles with valve ticking and timing chain slap. Didn't have a single problem. Just keep the damn thing maintained.

Furthest I've driven the vert was the day I picked it up in San Diego and drove it to L.A.

Furthest I've driven the coupe... probably Riverside from L.A. and back to L.A.

Need to drive these cars more.

I daily my S14 ~30 miles a day from work and back, and the furthest I've driven it would be to the Morongo casino from Los Angeles and back. Don't really like driving it far without AC and the amount of heat my car produces by my gas foot.

This past june I drove my track car 11 hrs to Colorado Springs for a TCD 2day Drift Event, and then drove it home. It was like 1400miles total and a 2 day event. It was a rough ride but it was worth it.
