Here's the new car for next year. I've been slacking on making a build thread on here for quite some time, figured now would be a good time.. end of the year, holidays comin up, what the hell, it's the season to share things... :bigok:
Here's what it looked like when I first got it from Hampton
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad131/marcbergeon/l.jpg
I quickly got to work and here it goes
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i103/ridesnowx4/_MG_4325-1.jpg
cut the core support
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i103/ridesnowx4/IMG_5564.jpg

Since there were 0 wires in the car I thought it'd be a good time
to make a chassis harness from scratch. Fairly easy actually and
so satisfying when you see that things work correctly

Got some carbon fibre from our supplier so I can make the switch panel

Dash looked like shit all cracked and worn out
http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad131/marcbergeon/IMG_8978.jpg
So I filled in the cracks, prepped it and flocked it with black velvet flock

Mid mount setup! had to be the simplest piping we've ever done. only had to weld one pipe lol

Sold the D-max hood and put my old Origin one on from the coupe I used to drive in 09. The raised section of this hood works way better for the RB25 and its tall ass front cover.

Exactly!! I'm sick of LS's they take all the skill out of drifting.
This RB will make around 450 wheel with a responsive tune and antilag limiter, I've got a small holset turbo, well small for a holset that is, going on it soon, just gotta get a good computer and injectors. Need to do more research on how to wire up an rb26 d-jetro on a series 2 rb25.
Once that's all tuned I'm going o start building a longblock back up motor to ensure minimal downtime with the car.

im a huge fan of this car. im doing a similar build for a similar reason. all my friends has frickin LS motors. Its SAD that to be original in drifting anymore you have to use something OTHER than an LSx.. what happened to the turbos and the ignition cut rev limiters i used to hear. now all the cars sound the same. like a camaro. yyyyyaaaayyyy

i agree man. im tired of the v8 240sx cars. in all honesty i believe that the fomula drift rules should be changed up a bit and you have to run a motor that originally came with the car. i personally went with an sr motor but i think our little 4 and 6 cylinder cars give the v8 mustangs and camaros a good run for there money.

Thanks! Yeah I've loved the RB ever since I drove an R33 back in 05, had to get one. Either that or maybe build a 2j powered FD for the next project. but can't seem to get away from the S chassis after building 4 of them lol

Do you guys legitimately think an RB is better than an LS? Or is it that you just like that it's different?
ridesnowx4
12-06-2011, 01:00 PM
RB's isn't exactly different, but yes I prefer a responsive RB with an anti-lag limiter over an LS.
I've driven LS's and i'm just not a fan. Only way I'll use one is if one of my sponsors basically makes me use one. Unfortunately that's where "American" drifting is headed.
LS's take all of the fineness and skill out of drifting, IMO. and I'm personally tired of closing my eyes at XDC and FD events and feeling like i'm at a NASCAR event....
Professional Drifting in general is going the wrong direction, but that's a whole other topic.
Of course people will choose brute, yet cheap horsepower over something semi reliable. Boost leaks, heat soak, and all the sort with turbo motors are just the obvious inconveniences.
I don't like seeing LS swaps being so common either, but they're just about unbeaten in efficiency.
I like what you're doing here though, so I'll subscribe.

haha yeah they are pretty awesome cars. very very light for a 4 door. mines stripped with half a cage and air jacks mocked up. and a tilton pedal box.
i think it had to do with the fact that i can buy most of the parts i need for a 240. the build would go much faster. i had plans of fabricating everything for the 190 and since ive been away from my wife for over 9 months, i realised that i want to spend more time at home and possibly have a kid. i think ill keep the 190 for a contingency plan haha
as for the LS issue. this is a build thread not a debate thread. its personal preference.

I gave up on the RB's after the last one blew up again , but i still love those engine
I hope it goes better for you
i dont know why people are so against V8's. Hell if i had the cash and gave a shit i would yank my SR out right now.

TQ, HP, cheap power mods, cheaper motors, they sound better (<lamest reason but still a reason) reliability at higher power levels IDK? I am not saying you should do a V8 really do what ever the hell you want to do. Just wondering why there is so much ricer hate for the V8.

If your more into competing go ls becuse thats the only way you'll keep up and there reliabe at 500hp stock bottom end , unless u build a sr or rb. but rb,sr,ca,ka's are good for dd/weekend warrior status. but thtas just me, But this is what he wants to do so let him do it.

12-08-2011, 07:48 PM
I'm sure i'll eventually have no choice but to slap a mildly built LS into this car but for now i'm still going to give it my all next season, as long as I can have a responsive tune and fine tune the steering components I'll still have a blast like i've always had since I started drifting in 03. It's all about the fun and the passion!
I may have finished 31st out of 65 drivers at D1GP Anaheim in 2009 with built SR on a 3071 that we didn't have time to tune the day before so it ran like poo, too rich and required me to kick the clutch at LEAST 10 times down the straight to make it to top of 3rd for the first corner, it was the slowest, most sluggish car there BUT I still had a blast regardless and would do it again and again.

12-08-2011, 08:17 PM
But we all know after watching the last 4 years that it IS going to be that way. I like V8's but not as much as RB's, 1J's 2J's and even high horsepower SR's.
Either way, if the RB doesn't cut it by the mid XDC season, then I'll have to switch over. I've always been the guy who doesn't ever quite have the necessary equipment to beat the guy that just started drifting but has everything...

formula d has unfortunatly moved away from grass roots style thats why i like d1gp style dont get me wrong i enjoy seeing fd events but dude give it your all when your competing id rather see a underdog take out pro drivers all day long.

Alright, back on topic
Tomorrow I took the day off from work, still had a bunch of Paid Time Off that won't roll over to next year.
Gotta change out fluids
Wire up fans & relay
Wire up headlights
See if she starts up again and try to figure out why it's hunting for idle between 1200 and 4500 RPMS.......
Then I need to slap this old, rotten, smelly Sparco and go for a little test run so I can start adjusting all these new suspension arms.
Once it feels like I won't need to do anymore fabrication then I can rip the motor and everything back out to send it to our Paint shop. The owner of Intensepower.com is set on this new color but I think it looks too close to our old signature color.
I NEED COLOR IDEAS... something poppy and stands out but doesn't look like every other car in the line up :/ SUGGESTIONS?

really cool color but probably not "poppy" enough. Color choice sucks its the hardest thing to do. I am in the middle of changing my car so its not a garage queen and color is part of that. colors i think are cool for a 240 fastback--
Gold candy (well pagan gold over black) looks like a carmel-a bitch to paint though. I painted my scooter this

midnight purple III--shows scuffs and is only cool in sun light otherwise its just a dark color
guards red with some flair (my top choice dont wanna spit out the flair as i want it all for my own)--
House of color- neon chartreuse want to get noticed? here you go lol--way cool color but hates sunlight so after a year you are painting again--kinda wild on a whole car though
Synergy green/snakeskin green--very cool colors (damn American shit is try to infiltrate again!!!) not quite sure on a fastback

Here's a quick update! After wiring up a consol port to the ecu harness we pin pointed why it was running so rough.
- MAFS was obviously bad, as I thought.
- TPS wasn't calibrated right because my Q45 throttle body had a broken piece on it for the cruise control and that broken piece wa preventing the throttle valve from closing completely.
- My throttle body gasket was missing half of itself hahaha, MAJOR vacuum leak. - AAC Valve is either dirty or bad, it's still hunting for idle but at least it runs.

Shame on me for forgetting my Zilvia friends with my updates :duh::spank:
Had the car running last spring to test out the chassis and suspension / steering adjustments but couldn't do much with the lack of power... despite what most people think, fairly stock RB's aren't very fast when you've built a chassis around a 450+ whp goal.
That plus it didn't help that I had 265/40/18's on the back either.. what was I thinking! :picardfp:
Did some more fine tuning with the steering before ripping off the factory turbo to give it's much needed upgrade.
Here was another test vid.

Partnered up with Competition Clutch, got one of their twin disc 8" clutches with lightened flywheel. Significant response and free revving but not too light so I still get some load.

Finally, got rid of the factory T28/T3 and went with a Holset HE351 off of an 05 Cummins.
I just need to pick up my 1000cc top feeds from Injector Dynamics before taking it down to UMS for some tunning.
If the Turbo's too laggy, I have a GT3076r sitting in my garage. We shall see how she drives.

I was at stock boost on the stock turbo in those videos. I was mainly testing the chassis since I knew it wasn't the power I needed to do anything competitive.
The new turbo is on there now and I'll know how much boost it'll set to once we dyno tune it. Right now it's got a Tial MVS wastegate with a 1bar spring.
1000cc injectors and Power FC. But it's untuned.

You won't be dissapointed, it revs significantly faster than the heavy 22lb+ flywheel.

Right on, yeah I knew the general basics of wiring but really learned everything as I built the chassis harness. Relays are just safer, plain and simple.
I have constant fused 12v going to one side of the relay, ground on the other, then fused 12v switched (from the toggle switch for each component) on the top prong of the relay and then the bottom prong goes to the power side of the component in question. For example the fuel pump power wire.
I know there's many other ways to wire up something, mine's a little over the top but it's what made sense to me... and i'm definitely not a wiring guru haha I don't have the patience. I'll stick to driving

And that's all I will post for now, I'll wait until I can get some high res photos of the car all finished.

Thanks man, anything above 450 will suffice for what I need. My previous SR coupe made around that and I need that power back in my life. lol

I know it's been a while, and it's been a slow and steady work in progress, but here she is so far, in her glory.

I'm currently working on re-wiring the car. Everything works BUT it's kind of a mess. lol The results of being rushed.
The RB kept running on 5 cylinders for a while and after thorough troubleshooting I figured out that one of the pins in the ECU connector was loose and not making good contact for cylinder #6. The ECU connector was so wallowed out that I had to order a new one and a bag full of pins/terminals. Luckily Chase Bays keeps em in stock!
I'll update this again soon after I redo the wiring, the connector and get this damn thing tuned on the Power FC.
