Anyone know of a mechanic in san diego (individual or shop) that is good with SR20 swaps? I've got a swap, 95 percent done. In car, starts, runs but having issues getting it smoothed out/driving.

Thanks

Car starts up slugishly. Takes about 8 cranks to fire. Despite being warmed up, it idles at 1600 RPM. Has a slight stutter/stumble when reving up. Took it for a test drive, car has no power, stutters and stumbles throughout RPMs but does not die. When clamping the idle air control valve vacume line after being warmed up, the car stalls(if that matters at all...that may or may not be normal...not sure).

There's always Drift Tech in Vista.

Drift Tech
635 Mercantile St
Vista, CA 92083
(760) 945-0348

And

Cartune Independent Service
7960 Ronson Rd
San Diego, CA 92111
(858) 715-1804

Cartune is behind Pann Automotive and I had an engine swap done by them 10 years ago. Everything went fine. I haven't used Drift Tech, but I've heard that they are a small shop, but know what they are doing. I am thinking about taking my SR20DET small block in to have the pistons done there.

Hope this helps. Both of those shops should be able to figure out your issue. They specialize in this kind of stuff.

you should make sure you are using a simple timing light, and not a super expensive digital one. otherwise your timing will be off. a cheapy from pep boys or something.

you should also check the wiring to your MAF, I would also check all your intercooler piping and vacuum lines. make sure everything is routed properly.

there is a ton of information on the internet to help you trouble shoot it. unless you can afford paying someone everytime something goes wrong

I have heard of a shop or 2 in san diego if you need more references, but i dont know them personally, i would go to corner 3 garage in lake forest or drift speed in los alamitos for my car.

if you can drive your car and want some friendly help, you can come to the oceanside meet on thursday nights at 9pm. there is a thread for it.

Isn't there a DEEPS garage in San Diego? (recently opened)

I heard Dads garage in lemon grove was good also.

I always too my car to CanyonRacermotorsports in Mission Viejo, well worth the drive.
