HAHA..everyone does, its hard finding the proper pics to install the subframe. Front is relatively easy, just depends on what ur plans and budget are. Front.. just bolt the arms in, get some knuckles and fab some coil mounts or buy the weld in kit.. Rear takes a little more time with the tape measure. lol

The wheel looks like it's sitting forward more, but that's how they sit from the factory..even with the sub swap, u can't really mount it back any further

True dash caps are cheap, but they still don't fit as nice or have the same feel as original. Originally I wanted to do a s15 lhd dash but too costly to just cut up, and the s13 dash was only $20..

In the long run everybody has the original dash with aftermarket gauges.. its been done and over done. The car isn't original anymore and will be far from. Main reason behind all of the projects I do.. Built not bought!

Not to knock but the s14's are actually perfect.. I had to extend the rears 3" to get the clearance I needed, the bottoms then work out to be the same length as s14 in the long run, just the tops are wider..

Yep - sorry I meant to say S14's are too long to be useful for me. I mounted my subframe flush with the stock surface, not 1.75" down like yours, and with a Z32 perch on the bottom it is money, my lower control arm is flat (yours points up to get to the spindle).

i'll have to take a new pic that's the old one with no coils just a 1x4" block of wood lol.. If you use the s13 coils in the rear with s13 bottoms the bottoms literally are only threaded on about 1-2 turns = Dangerous..

mounting it the way u have done will work to give u more threads and tuck it for a cleaner rail, but the hump that is on the front of the subframe will touch the floor guaranteed.. unless u cut the storage pockets up as well.. In addition the higher you go with the subframe the less clearance ur gunna have with the tires to flares or 1/4's. I currently have a 205/50/15 and had to extend the bottoms because the 1/4's were on the tires = No roll lol

Eventually gunna be running a 17x9.5... so in the long run the more turns on the coils u have initially the less pain in the a** u'll have down the road

Yah dude - I'm going straight to 17x9, 17x11. I am taking out all of that crap that mounts the nose of the S30 diff and it gives enough clearance for the new subframe hump. On HybridZ theres a build called "Introducing Gaijin" that he mounts it the way I am and he's on 18's with no issues on the same superwide BAMF flares. (He also is running full RB26 awd drivetrain :|) If it does come down to it I'll order a slightly longer spring from HSD/Stance.

For sure - if my buddy with the laser cutter is willing to knock off a bunch of sets I'm down for splitting sales.

This is Zilvia, running the tires into the 1/4's is 'proper' fitment, no? Lol.

Curious about using the S14 LCAs in the front. Was this a bolt in affair, or did you machine a spacer/bushing to make them bolt to the subframe correctly? Also, what tie rods are you using?

still running stock rack as well.. hybridz have talked about s13 racks and from what i've read u can use a jdm rack and flip it or there are a couple other options aswell, just haven't tried it yet

bit of both wheels are 15x8 0.. and the entire s14 swap is a bit wider than stock

as for the knuckles, they are both identicle so u can swap sides= front mount rack.. guys have been doing it and its proven. and the stock s30 rods reach with lots of adjustment

so motor is coming along still need to get a couple big ticket items.. oil pan, trans and buy mckinney or fab some mounts etc. Currently the subframe is ripped out getting powdered and adj. arms being freshened.. picked up a sexy pair of these the other night

super stoked for these seats, love them.. but me being 6,5' I sit too high with stock z seat mounts, normal for most.. I just like sitting lower so gonna fab some brackets and reweld them in.

When i say gear I mean like knuckles hubs LCA tension rods etc.

Got it, I bought a 240sx donor car that I'm going to tune everything for the Z on and then swap it all over. I'm trying to decide if getting aftermarket LCA's and tension rods can work in the Z application.

How much welding did you have to do for the rear sub frame?

U gotta look at the pics dude, it's not a quick swap.. From the sounds of it, just get a mint running sr20 an buy some mounts, wire it to the car and buy 240z aftermarket arms from techno toy tuning and weld on some coils get some wheels.. Done. then u can look cool like everybody else

Def. not giving up! Just delayed on stuff and work lol.. I need to roll the dat out and weld up some more frame before the subframe goes back in but no free time lately. Was gonna do it today but it decided to rain, so hopefully tom. Also waiting to get my sub back from powder coat so I can reassemble and get some pics up. Unseized all my multi link except for my cusco camber arms.. To the parts bin they go, and need to decide on new ones.

Hopefully in the next couple weeks I can have the motor complete and ready to drop in.. Or at least temporarily to fab some mounts.. Once that's done it should start coming together a lot easier with just plumbing and wiring.

bought a rear sump pan, price was great and certainly not anywhere near the price of the mckinney ones. Only problem i ordered it for a rb20/25.. so now have to mod the pickup but no biggie

I've maxed out the camber in the rear.. it isn't horrible but not the look i'm going for.. Also fixed the front when i installed the new sub up there, seems to be a bit better the tires are a little more flat on the ground. Keep in mind the set that's on it now are 15x8 et 0, looking for 15x9.5 +15 or 17x9.5 +15

I could just buy a wiring kit for like $700 but why? It's super simple if u can read them and get the proper diagrams with pinouts.. most of the engine harness is divided up already just need to get the motor in and get the proper lenghts of wire to make it all pretty in loom tucked out of sight :)

All I can think of off the top of my head is location of the brake line holder bracket on the strut. Anything else?

Swapping knuckles the brakes become mounted in the rear as opposed to the front.. can't find the pic but u get the idea.. no big deal just swap the coilover bottoms from side to side.. This will look like the factory setup on original s30 chassis

currently the motor is in for mockup purposes, harness, fuel routing ect.. and no I will not be running the twin setup, I have a hx35 to go on as previously mentioned.. on that subject anybody have a power fc and commander they want to part with??! lol

I decided not to make mounts and order a set of Mckinney ones instead.. awesome looking product but there is only one issue...

Apparently from what I can see here and researching other builds the kits are made solely for rb20, 25 and R34 rb26 valve covers.. The pcv ports sit back further on the R32 rb26 and there isn't enough clearance between them and the OE hood latch bracket.. So any ideas besides r34 covers and or putting a different fitting in? cuz it is too tight..



The engine harness is coming along, been busy nightly with it.. still need to order the rest of the harness to wire the car up tho, like lights, gauges ect..

as for total ride height.. the fronts are fully maxed out and rear could still go lower with the modified bottoms, but i think it sits alright for now on 15's

It's not supposed to sit level. The rb motors sit 1.0-1.5 inches lower on the drivers (left) side than the pass (right) side depending on what mounts used.

BTW, love your work over on HybridZ. If I wasn't going SR in my Z I would def be hitting you up for some RB conversion parts.

Looking at RB builds makes me almost want to change over.

Sorry dudes!! The build will never be abandoned just progress is very slow atm... Feel like I haven't touched it in a while but the funds have been diverted to a wedding and a house.. I ended picking up an ek hatch over the winter to do up quick and sell for datsun funds, and to also shrug the winter blues. I will post pics of that soon..

^ its pretty straight forward, just mount the knuckles on the opposite sides.. the calipers will then mount towards the doors as oppose to the font of vehicle. leave the control arms for the correct sides

The front mounts are pretty much same as rear, there is a pic on the first page just used the 2x3 and braced everything

I don't have any underneath shots atm. If you check out project steezee he is another local guy and is going pretty much the same route, but using skyline subframe.. mounting points are basically identical and yes using s14 sub

Thanks man ! I'm supposed to pick up a subframe tomorrow. It just seems like the answer my turbo LS/t56 swap. More diff/axle/brake choices, plus I think will handle better. I can't wait.

I'm doing the swap pretty much for the same reasons you are and don't forget the brake options too. Just Google the projects OP referred me to(Steezee & Project: SR-71, make a s30 drift like a s13).

The car is pretty much ready to fire up minus exhaust and a power fc d jetro.. anybody has one they wanna sell hit me up.

brake lines run and bleeding tomorrow, wirings pretty much there just some odds and ends. initially since getting the new garage ready i had set a deadline for july 1st.. we have now past that so the new dead line is this fall, hopefully this fall... lol

What are your plans to power the ECU? Ign switch-relay-ecu?

It will wired in pretty much the same as it was factory. I am just using and aftermarket kit to wire the complete car and then adding ecu powers and relays where needed.

WARNING PIC HEAVY LOL..Build update… its been a while and pics will reflect that, but non the less there has been constant progress on the datsun.

I have enclosed the large hole in the rear where my spare tire once use to go. This covers the fuel cell and provides a mounting area. I am also trying to utilize the factory fuel door instead of having to lifting the hatch to fill the tank.

I have completely stripped smoothed and finished all areas of the underbody/engine bay. POR-15 was first laid in the engine bay then scuffed and factory silver then sprayed. Underbody is still POR-15 as it’s somewhat durable and has a nice finish. As for the interior the floor was coated then prepped and bed liner used to give a textured look and some grip.

Made a few little pieces along the way.. Custom flip switch/din panel, fuel pump/ filter mount, custom outer tie rods with heims- little longer than stock but not by much. Also had a custom driveshaft made locally to connect the rb25 trans to s14 diff.

last image shows the remote reservoirs mounted under the inspecton panel. I wanted to run a race style pedal setup mainly to keep the heat away from the brake fluid. Running 3” exhaust turbo back and turbo sitting close to the factory booster/master setup just didn’t sit well with me.

Body work has begun.. Took a break from it leading up to the birth of my son and haven’t gotten back to it as of yet, but I will be soon. I stripped both doors and the drivers side was fairly decent just needs a patch at the bottom. As for the passenger door it had 3 layers of paint on top of 1/4” of bondo, previous owner didn’t like to pop dents out I guess..

I keep thinking about alternate Dash options for my 1972 240Z... I LOVE the original dash, but hate the thought of paying $1000 and shipping it to Australia to be refinished.... I thought about a 350z dash, since it would be keeping a similar style... but detest the materials... but it does have that double din opening behind the door up top to hide OEM z controls in!!!! a 3000GT dash would look fairly proper, and offers good DIN sized holes to mount OEM controls... An S15 Dash would look pretty good and be close in size... but RHD.....

in the end... I'm thinking a Honda S2000 dash would be cool. I love how they are absolutely plain, with EVERY function within the Fingertips of the driver while the hands are on the steering wheel....

Little update

Lately i've been honing my tig and pie cutting abilities. Built the entire exhaust system and originally was just going to run straight pipe, but ended up finding a good deal on a new hks hi power muffler. The muffler is hanging about 1-2" too low in the rear view pic but that just requires a hanger adjustment. Built the upper rad pipe now I just need to find some little pieces of rad hose to join it all together. Also spent a little time brainstorming ways to tie the ecu, relays and secondary fuse box all together. This was a progress pic of the layout and i can't seem to find the completed pic, but it gives you the general idea of what i was going for.

Since owning this car I've been on the search for "the right seat" being 6.5 and a small car options can be limited and I refuse to run the original for a driver's seat. I had bride's which looked awesome but just didn't fit. Sold both of those then switched to my spg rep welding chair.. good seat but tight. Now I've moved on to a kirkey and this I suppose is the seat.. fits nice, not the exact one I wanted but does the trick and price was right.

Those wondering where the build has been lurking, I have mainly kept it up to date on Instagram @ROGUE_RB.
So I’ve been busy, the car is pretty much done and we are rounding almost 9 years of ownership. Can you say fml for having this much dedication to 1 project.. but I like to see a vision completed! Little fan shroud action built out of 20 gauge aluminum. I ended up basically making a break for the bends out of scrap material and vice grips lol. I may or may not keep this one, I've since thought up a new design with some added strength and tig welding.

Dash updates as well. I've steered away from the stock s13 cluster and surround and found a fairly cheap but effective race dash that has all of the required parameters that I need to run.

Seats are a never ending issue. I am 6'4 and now have had 5 different seats in the car over the years. Likely the Kirkey in the picture will go as it is more suited for a drag seat (older 36 series) and I've acquired a gently used 47 series road race intermediate from a buddy. His second 47 series is still in the works of obtaining. Prior to this I purchased a set of bride bios low max- brand new.. but the shoulder harness holes ended up being too low for my comfort and safety.

Update! Car has been tuned and predicted power goals have been met. Wanted to be in the 400whp club. Surpassed that at 417. The car needs wider/better fitment wheels and tires, but overall very fun to drive!
