Hey guys,

I was wondering what tricks anyone has to hide your front mount intercooler and hopefully avoid catching the wrong kind of attention.

Reason I ask is because the car I am looking to buy is very stock looking, no aero, stock wheels, no stickers, etc etc, besides the FMIC. I dont want a shiny intercooler being the reason I get pulled over and get a ref ticket.

I have searched and people say painting/anodizing a intercooler isnt the best idea.

Thanks!

You can lightly dust it black. Might make it retain a bit more heat, but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.
Or you can run i high/top/mid mount set up

Best Option is to sell it then swap to stock SMIC or Max HMIC. Never have to worry unwanted attention not unless of course you also have a BOV that you can hear for miles.

just use radiator paint. http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s248/adolfosandoval/IMG_20110421_132553.jpg

Paint it blk and leave the fins on the bumper will do the trick. blk couplers help and painting the clamps too. If it's not shiny the money won't grab it.

This guy has it right under the core support. when the bumper is put on you can't even see it. wish i had better pics.

So from my understanding this is a HMIC setup similar to the one that MAX sells?

This....i would never paint an intercooler because it will retain the heat and it would wortheless.

why not look into a quality USED sidemount?

such as a MKIV Supra sidemount?

Eastwood Radiator Black Paint (http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-radiator-black-paint.html) will solve your dilemma.

I say the Max one...jus cause it is tucked away and away from the crash zone below...then again there are no guarantees.

Mishimoto sells a black intercooler.....

here's mine-

Intercooler and piping is all black. Lots of fab work; cut the bumper support & had to slightly shave the back side of the bumper to fit the fog lights, but definitely worth it cause they help to hide the piping. Also depends if you want to keep your a/c.. if not, go with the high mount intercooler from pbm.

Thanks for all the help guys. I will probably try to get my hands on the MAX High Mount setup as everyone who has one of those is happy with it. It also seems like I would be able to keep the crash bar which is a huge plus with insurance in case of an accident. Thanks for all the help!

Also, would painting the IC piping be bad in the same regards as painting the IC itself? MAX HMIC comes with shiny polished style piping. >-<

If you were trying to achieve a low-key look, then you failed man haha.

Well I cannot say that yet. I am planning on buying this: http://zilvia.net/f/cars-sale/403966-clean-tittle-silvia-coupe.html

I do not know enough about 240's at this moment to give an ideal WHP. This will be my first 240sx, and I was primarily looking for a clean silvia conversion as a DD. I come from a background of 2 Honda Preludes, 2 Miatas, and 2 WRX's. Supposedly this car is around 240WHP right now.

I need to do something about the clamps they bring the attention to the front and makes you want to do a double take.

Honestly I woundn't go past paint or powder coating the end tanks clamps and pipes. If your gonna get caught the I/C aint gonna be the cause of it, probably gonna be exhuast, ride height window tint etc.

Lmao..first of all I'm not a man :) Second, my goal was a stealth turbo setup which I did achieve thanks. You don't have to drive a pos to get away with a turbo. The car looks stock besides wheels and a lip sooo.....
