I need to get this fixed asap. Ever since i've owned this car its seemed to have a rough/choppy powerband. I come from along line of dsms so I know what a car feels like when its knocking (detonating). I suspected the ignition timing was off so I reset the car to true tdc using the links on the chain (per frsports) write up, and the cas slid right in and lined up perfect.

The issue im having is when trying to get the timing back to 15 degrees like its supposed to I have to max it out in adjustment clockwise and the it bogs really hard and will not rev at all. The more I turn the cas counter clockwise the better it revs/drives, but that is advancing the timing away from the marks on the pulley. Im out of ideas I just want the car to time correctly and pull hard and smooth. I would suspect a faulty cas but the car starts up fine so im not sure.

Im also getting a code 34 which I believe is a knock sensor code. How do I go about testing both of these to make sure there good?

Whoever has the right fix to this prob will be paypaled some funds.

You shouldn't have to max it out in order to reach 15 BTDC. Mine is probably a few mm away from the center position (counter-clockwise). You may have the CAS off a tooth. However, having the 34 knock sensor code can cause your car to run funny. I would check the wiring to the knock sensor (make sure everything is ok) then if that checks out to be ok, it's time to replace it with a new one.

I lined the cas up using the two marks and it lined up per the write up on frsport. Is there a way to line it back up without pulling the valve cover again?

You can bypass the knock sensor code with a 1 megaohm resistor.

The best way to check the timing is to get a spark plug wire and connect it to you #1 spark plug and hook it back up to the coil pack and connect the timing light hook to the spark plug wire.

If you stabbed the cas correctly you should be able to get to 15*

Don't attempt to restab the CAS until you fix all your ECU codes. The knock sensor will retard your timing if it senses knock or if its malfunctioning. You can use the resistor like lok mentioned as a temporary solution to diagnose the problem.

Can anybody elaborate on the resistor method?

Unplug the knock sensor harness and stick each end of the resistor into it.

A resistor looks like this...

Radioshack has them, make sure you get a megaohm one.

Ended up being a bad harness which was is shorting out the ecu.
