I just bought an s13 with an rb25det and an aem series 1. I have a few questions. Sorry it's a bit of a read.

The air/fuel ratios weren't too bad, but weren't perfect. With the ac on the idle was kind of rough. With out the ac on it idled around 10.5. Also while cruising, it would be at like 13.9-15.0 and then you would feel the car sort of hiccup and then it would go down to 11.7-11.9. Also when you started it up you'd have to keep revving it or it would die. So I figured I get a retune and sort everything out. Well the car has only had the "street tune" part and is still awaiting the dyno tune. So far the afrs are even more messed up then before. They're ALL over and it's more sporadic now and nothing is consistent. Idle got as rich as 10.0 (does the gauge go lower than that?) and cruising got very lean too at some points. So needless to say I don't have as much faith in the tuner as when I went in. I'm going to give him another chance with the dyno tomorrow simply because everyone in this area goes to him and everyone has good things to say about him...He's been in the business a long time, built a lot of race cars, and tuned plenty of AEM cars, skylines, supras, etc. One supra he has now is making 1000hp.

Here's where the questions start. After he messed with it, the AC stopped working at idle. It works when you drive but not at idle. He thinks its a problem with the ac system. However I think it's too much of a coincidence. Is there something in the tune that he could have messed up to cause that?
Second thing is it got really hot driving on the highway. It got to like 210. It never did that before he messed with it. So, same question: is there something he could have done with the tune to cause that?
Last question is does anyone have any idea what could be causing that "hiccup" I mentioned when you're cruising? It'll be at 13.9-15 and then it kind of feels like someone kicks you in the back and then it goes to high 11s and stays there for a little bit and then goes back to what it was before.

I appreciate any input, and let me know if there is a better section for this. I didn't see any tuning/electronics section.

Dont take this the wrong way, but its most likely your car has gremlins that need sorted out.

People bring me jankety cars all of the time and I tell them real fast if their car has issues and send them on their way because Im not going to be able to tune out mechanical problems and if their car wont run consistantly Im not going to be able to back up and replicate pulls to compare to my changes.

If he was unable to get the afrs worked out on the street under normal driving conditions it is irresponsible to put it on the dyno for power tuning. I could understand using the dyno to use as a tool to replicate problems and trouble shoot, but tomorrow does not seem like the day to try to make power.

Yeah that's what were doing with the dyno. Trying to sort it out more, not going for power. But I understand the gremlins part, but it's annoying that he takes my money and I can't get results. I'd be happy if he did like you said, and turned me away after not getting results. But what do you think could be causing those "gremlins"?
Also, any input on the ac and high temps?

Your problems could be your map sensor, boost leaks, bad injectors, any wiring-anywhere. I dont know. If someone brings me a car thats falling apart with pvc fittings instead of intercooler piping i send them away, but most cars come to me running bad and look to be built well and if they have a gremlin we cannt find im still going to charge them for my time. It usually your best bet to try to find it on the dyno because it seems easyer to replicate conditions and not have to worry about traffic. Its just more expensive than driving on the street

yeah my only problem with the situation is he hasn't begun to even think about fixing anything. he just keeps plugging his lap top in and saying he doesn't know whats happening and sends me on my way. I found out the car doesn't have an intake air temp sensor though so I'm gonna start with that. Didn't get to put it on the dyno yet because the braking mechanism for the dyno wasn't working, so I'm going back next Wednesday and were gonna get the sensor in and hopefully on the dyno finally.
I'm gonna PM you another question if that's alright.
