Chilton repair manual worth it?

So I'm gonna attempt to remove the engine out of my s13 and was wondering if the chilton repair manual would explain in detail on how to go about doing this?

heres how you do it.
step 1: drain all fluids
step 2: remove shifter
step 3: disconnnect battery, then all wiring harness connectors and hang out of the way
step 4: unbolt trans and motor mounts.
step 5: yank the bitch.

install is reverse of removal.

No man, that book is pointless all info can be found on here. That 30$ book is pointless you can yank the engine out in 30-45minutes, and install it bak in 1-2 hours it really is the easiest car to work on.

Ya I figured I mean I don't even have the replacement motor yet so I have all the time in the world to figure it out

i mean taking out sohc and putting in sohc
or dohc to dohc is fairly simple, i would imagine.

but once you start dropping in rb or ls or vq

then do some major homework

Ya no ill just be putting in a sohc I want a dohc if I can find one for the right price but my budget is really slim I mean SLIM and I live in CA so finding one in a junkyard intact is mission impossible 4 lol

you dont need it, just search "240sx bible V.2" and the FSM is there, its been helpfull to me and i didnt even have to buy it :D

Did a search and found it skimmed through it a bit but didn't really find anything about removing the whole motor out either way though I could probably figure it out its the installing of the new motor I'm more or less concerned with but I'm sure it wont be to difficult

Jack the car up, take off te drive shaft, remove the harness and hang it over the side of the car, unbolt the trans mount and engine mounts, and then the engine is out. It doesn't get any easier.

You can download the fsm at phase2motortrend it'll be more useful than the crapton

FSM + Chiltons gets shit done. I have both, all the information from rebuilding the engine to basic maintenance. If you haven't done an engine swap or that much automotive work they are big helps. Shit i'll still have mine open on the bench while i yank the engine out for the 4th or so time.

Dont waste money on it. Take pic along the way incase u forget where shit goes.

Ya I was planning on taking plenty of pics and using masking tape and a Sharpie to label everything I disconnect or remove

Bump. Shouldn't manuals such as Chilton have instructions or steps to do this so? How about Haynes manual? Well, I am thinking of buying a Chilton manual but now I am thinking not to.

Repair manual is very helpful for anyone, especially if u decide to step it up a notch and rebuild the engine, i remember my first engine rebuild :bash:

I'd say it never hurts to have, I purchased one for $18 at my local auto parts store, havent used it yet, but hey who knows..As for haynes, they make the chilton manuals, just under another name. FSM + CHilton is def good for diagnostics and such. Also google one of the best sources around.

for an engine swap the chiltons helped me a lot on SOHC you can have the book right on your windshield while working on the car. cant do that with the computer. theres not to much to it at all. if i were you since you got the motor out maybe think about doing the timing chain
