Ok, so rebuilding my old dual cam, I AM going through with this, I searched this and no one followed up or anything so I'm gonna post EVERYTHING with the rebuild. So... good stuff, took this out of my current 92 hatch. Took a looksie...spun bearings is as far as i got and pushed it aside and threw in a single cam from parts car. Now, buying a buddy's S13 coupe, with silvia front end, for cheap, but need a motor. SO for lack of money for whole SR or RB swap, just rebuilding this.

OK! So, thinking: Spun bearings, probably alot more damage done from it. (Crank, head, blah, etc.) So, tearing it down....MAYBEE this weekend?? and am going to strip it. Question is, for anyone who has done it or researched it (unlike my lazy ass), have any idea of wheter to go rebuild KIT or build it?? Either way it will be cheaper than the SR for now. (For those of you wondering, I'm gonna EVENTUALLY get an SR but for now my single cam isn't doing so good in my DD so will put this in there when I get the SR in the coupe.) So, quality part reviews? Pricing? The pains in the asses that Ima run into. I want it all. Please and thank you. WILLLL keep this updated. Thanks!!!

It all depends on what you're trying to do. Oversize rod bearings. Check everything. Reassemble.

Are you trying to boost the engine? Go forged
Trying to fix your grocery getter? Just get some new rings/bearings/etc.

Its quite a simple choice

Hate to be a dick....but you haven't searched. There is a ton of information and guides to this online. We are not going to do the pen pushing for you and tell you prices. If you aren't capable of that how in the fuck do you expect to build an engine. Laziness will get you nowhere.

Now, on the kinder side.

Get someone with all data to print you out everything. (its a lot of shit)
Get some tools or rent as you go.
Don't use a tool not meant for the job (within reason)
I used an OSK timing chain kit (FRSport) and it appears to be good quality.

Eyeballing is not good enough.

I'm in the process of doing the same. As for being cheaper than an SR? Probably not. Machine work is always going to drive your costs through the roof. Cheaper than rebuilding an SR is closer to the truth. Here's the long and short I could come up with.

If you want a stock rebuilt KA, you're better off buying one and turning yours in as a core. It'll cost about the same, and the trade off in turn-around is probably worth it. If you want a built motor at the end of everything, you're looking to spend around about 2~3k. That's a range of low to high, depending on what parts you choose to get, whether or not your crank needs to/can be turned, variance in costs of machining, etc... For myself, I'm looking at around 2.5k, largely because I've been patient and snagged parts on a deal by deal basis. That's a bore, rebuilt crank, forged pistons and rods, oversize valves, decking and everything ARP. I'd have to do some math to be more accurate. If I hadn't waited on sales and deals, I'd be closer to 3.2k at a guess.

If you want an SR eventually, you might want to go ahead and find a swap now. I don't want to deal with that, so I'm going KA to the wall.

It will definately not be cheaper than an sr swap, ecspecially if your building it
