View Full Version : More sputtering - LEAN

I fixed my last problem 2-3 months ago, that ended up being a corroded ground wire...but now I have another issue. It drove perfect for a couple of months, and when I was leaving work one day, I noticed a little miss. It has progressively gotten worse. As soon as I noticed it, I changed the plus thinking that would be the problem. It helped for about a mile, and then it started again. I disconnected the MAF, and the engine died...so I'm assuming the MAF is good. I tested all of the coils, and am getting spark from each one. I have a Megan narrowband (worthless I know...will be upgrading in the future), and it is reading very lean, until I get into higher rpms. I know the o2 sensor needs to be replaced, but I don't think that could cause the sputter like this. It happens at idle and WOT. I hold boost fine, and if it were a boost leak, I should be running rich. I've never checked the timing before, but it has been fine for the past few years, but I'm not sure what can cause the timing to jump. I'm going to take some time today to go through the wiring some more, and see if I can find another wiring problem. The only other things I can come up with would be a bad ignitor chip or CAS. I'm unsure if either of these could be the problem though, since I am getting spark from the coils. My mechanical fuel gauge is reading around 36-38 psi at idle, and I can hear the fuel pump priming.

Any thoughts?

check resistance on coilpacks
if its lower or higher the 1k ohm
its got an issue
it will still spark but not good enough

Thanks for the quick response... I will try to check this out as soon as I get home tonight. I'll keep you updated. If it's spark that is bad though, wouldn't that make me run rich? Since the fuel isn't burning?
