View Full Version : TIAL bov not closing after decel

So ive been having some idling issues with my Rb25. Everytime I let off the gas the car dies. Ive thought it was something else like a bad sensor or something, but after taking it to Sileighty_85's house last night for some trouble shooting, he noticed that the bov wasnt closing completely after quick revs, causing it to have a massive vacuum leak and nearly die.
Our test to this was to take the vacuum line to a source in front of the bov just to test and see if it would die when the bov saw very little vacuum. It did not die. However, this caused the turbo to surge even when not under a load.
So, my question is, do I need to upgrade spring strength? I have no idea what size spring is in the bov right now. I havent been able to find much info on this yet, and im fairly sure that this is the culprit behind my cars idling problem.
Any input would be great.
Pics for clicks.

Does raising your idle fix (bandaid) the issue?
I wouldn't ever use the tial bov on a MAF Car.

No it didnt help at all. We adjusted it a little bit and it helped smooth the idle out, but it would still die after we did some quick revs.

Alright, I put a new TIAL on there, and no change. I basically just disconnected the vacuum source to the bov for now just to keep it idling till I figure out the issue.
Do I need a stronger spring for the BOV?

Just curious but why wouldn't you? Is there something about the setup?

The inability for recirculation is the main drawback
Tial Valves are nice pieces, and work well...on MAP cars.

good to know.

you may need to replace the spring in the bov for you VAC set up...
look on tials site you will see...
X spring for 20
X spring for 17
X spring for 14 etc etc

What about a spacer to increase the spring rate?

Blow through?

^^ no its when the car dosent have a MAF, a map is a computer designed program that puts injectors pulserate based on manifld pressure..
unles you mean for the op to blow through the maf, that would work deffinately did it on my vg30 for a while..

Well I decided to make a spacer. It helped. Then I raised the idle a tad more and now it doesn't die.
Now I really don't know what it idles at now because the tach isn't calibrated since the RB25 swap. But im working on that.

Ah yes. Blow throgh. Shit. Super shit.
Sure it works, but not for long. You wont' need to reciulate BOV, but the car will still run like dick.

Again, those are all bandaides. Recirculate it and have it work.

pretty much your issue is for the tial BOV's you need to get a stiffer spring casue what is happening is it is staying open. thats what i had to do with mine. I had just got a 10 psi spring and it ran fine. really the only issue with tial bov is if your running the stock t25 it will eventually kill the turbo haha just casue of the stiffness. in which it did end up doing to mine but i did not care cause i went with a 2871r = )
