For the money oem costs vs the lifespan of a built engine id rather not spend as much as possible on something that will be redone sooner than later

OEM manual also recommends a whole bunch of other OEM shit you should use, do you do everything as per the service manual?

I have a Cloyes kit that I got from Partsgeek.com. The kit was put together real well with the updated guides/bolts and all new gears. I was gonna use the OSK kit, but since they didn't come with the gears, I went ahead with the Cloyes. I'm not knocking the OSK kit, we sell them at the Toyota dealership I'm a mechanic at, for the 22-R/RE engines. The only downside of the Cloyes kit is the center idler gear which connects the upper and lower chains wasn't correct and had to use the factory piece. No excessive wear showed on the gear and the new chain didn't have slop when installed on gear and moved side to side. Just remember, the chain and gears wear together, replacing one and not the other is really NOT recommended. Here is a picture of the Cloyes kit installed to give you an idea of what is included in the kit:

Here is a link to the kit I bought (I have a '96 so thats what I looked up for reference) off partsgeek. The shipping was insanely fast. I ordered it at like 8AM, got a shipping confirmation at like 10AM and got the kit two days later. Super fast shipping. Really recommend this kit and supplier. For $7 more than the OSK, you get the crank sprocket and both cam sprockets. I think its worth it.

I have over 2k miles on it since the full rebuild and everything is great. No worries for those that haven't heard of this company. The engine was a stock rebuild using aftermarket OE parts, but all top quality. I don't like junk on my car. For the people that say, "only OEM is the way to go; all else is crap and will break" doesn't know what they're talking about. I will agree on electrical components, but others I disagree 100%. As long as the parts are from a reputable supplier I'd be okay with it. Sealed Power, Federal Mogul, Fel-Pro are good for suppliers. These people are probably the ones that have KA's that leak and have timing chains that still rattle. Just an assumption though.

1/2 are saying to use oem? what if your pushing 400+ rwhp still oem? to me it wouldn't make sense to run oem considering the ka24de was never build (by the manufacture) to put out that kind of power. im curious to know as well.
