yea 20-50 is super thick... 10-30 is fine for an older motor, maybe add that lucas oil stabilizer.

That thick of an oil might not getting sucked up by the oil pump...

You might want to open up up the oil pan now though as you will see metal shavings from the knocking you heard.

That's what I was thinking the reason why I put such thick oil cause the car is old and I live in Miami and its summer and idk what oil it had before cause I just bought the car in December

how much oil+stabilizer did you add? overfilling can mess things up.

You have 5.5 quarts in a motor that takes only 4

You have to much oil pressure. If you have 5.5qts your gonna blow something, if you haven't already.

u should be fine with 20-50 in your motor
its not like 20-50 is maple syrup maybe in cold cold weather but we live in florida

i would run the heavier oil over 10-30 anyday it gets way to thin

It only takes 4 quarts. Overfilling is most likely your problem.

Alright so half of you are telling me to stay with 20 50 and the other are telling me to change I'm going to drain and see what happens if the noise starts again I will get a video so there's more detail

Drain a quart and a half out and then see what happens. If the sound goes away then you're good. you have 5.5 in it the car only takes 4

yea you definitely starved the head of oil thats for sure.

It will be a crap shoot if the noise goes away just depends on the extent of damage.

I run 20/50 in my S13 240K miles and it runs fine. I'm also in FL.

Just a side note the tensioner could be what your hearing knocking. My old single cam knocked very loudly for years with no problem.
