oil change then..knocking.. help?

Alright so the situation goes I do a fresh oil change 20 50 cause the cluster says 202000 miles I finish the oil change I let the car idle for about 5 mins and then a knocking sound starts sounds like its coming from the head but its extremely loud by the driver side under the car I put Lucas and it went away but as it was taking in the Lucas it was going and coming back like it got louder until it stopped its a ka24e I will get a video if the noise come back any suggestions to what it is ? Too thick of oil is the only thing I can think of

yea 20-50 is super thick... 10-30 is fine for an older motor, maybe add that lucas oil stabilizer.

That thick of an oil might not getting sucked up by the oil pump...

You might want to open up up the oil pan now though as you will see metal shavings from the knocking you heard.

That's what I was thinking the reason why I put such thick oil cause the car is old and I live in Miami and its summer and idk what oil it had before cause I just bought the car in December

how much oil+stabilizer did you add? overfilling can mess things up.

I've heard this knocking before the car get warm and it goes away this happen in the winter

You have to much oil pressure. If you have 5.5qts your gonna blow something, if you haven't already.

drain it and put a 10-30 with stabilizer. Should be fine no? idk i live in cali...

thats what i used all year.

im guessing 20-50 works in florida???

u should be fine with 20-50 in your motor
its not like 20-50 is maple syrup maybe in cold cold weather but we live in florida

i would run the heavier oil over 10-30 anyday it gets way to thin

It only takes 4 quarts. Overfilling is most likely your problem.

Alright so half of you are telling me to stay with 20 50 and the other are telling me to change I'm going to drain and see what happens if the noise starts again I will get a video so there's more detail

Drain a quart and a half out and then see what happens. If the sound goes away then you're good. you have 5.5 in it the car only takes 4

The sound was there before I added the Lucas but ima drain it in like ten minutes so ill put up an update

Drained it idled fine until it got to regular temperature you can hear it in video get loud then stop over and over

I always ran 10 30 in my 240sx single cam, had the car since 2001 had 189,xxx miles when I bought it, now has 235,xxx miles and I'm still running 10 30, have no problems in the 100 degree weather

thinking lifters? i'm on 10w40 in CA weather and it seemed to stop my lifter noise, 10W30 knocks all day after coming up to temp.

The sound actually has faded away drove 40 miles today and no more knock maybe the oil thinned out ?

yea you definitely starved the head of oil thats for sure.

It will be a crap shoot if the noise goes away just depends on the extent of damage.
