ok so i have a 90 s13 hatch with a ka24de swap.

My first issue is that my turn signals don't work. They dont even show up on the indicators when switched. My hazards work and all of the bulbs are good so im not sure what its wrong.

My second issue is that even with the key turn to off and key out i still have power to basically everything. the only thing that i know turns off is my stereo.

Everything in the engine bay still has power. ecu has power as well as the dummy lights in the cluster. the only way to actually get all of it to shut off is buy disconnecting the battery of course or pulling either the egi or egi pump relays. I have checked all fuses and they were all fine.

I'm not sure if the two problems relate in anyway but this whole thing started a little prior to me starting the swap. it was fine before hand but was sitting for some time. about 4 months.

Thanks for any help.

for the Turn signals, might be the switch

the Power thing, almost sounds like either the Igniton switch is bad or a relay is sticking closed.

I don't think the ign switch is bad since my stereo turns off as it should. I'm not sure what really I should be checking for though.

try swapping the two green relays around in the engine bay fuse box on the passenger strut tower and see if that fixes it

check your fuse box its probly blown . or check to see if you hazard button and defrost is plug in because they wont work if there not in

Ok just tried that and nothing. I don't think those are the issue. But then again I'm no good with electrical.

go undear your steering wheel check the the fuse that control the turn signal lights . swap it out for another one. did you try that.

You talking about the fuse in the fuse panel. Yeah I checked that. 10 amp right. It was fine.

dam im stumped then i had the same problem turned out being a combo of both dead fuse and not being plug in.

Well ill check the defroster swwitch again. I know the hazard switch is hooked up cause they work.

my sr20 ecu got fried, and repaired.

now it never shuts off, i have to stall my car out and unplug the ecu or it kills my battery.

maybe...

just get another signal stalk, as for everything still being powered on after, you may need to check your wiring sounds like there is a constant 12v wire connected where a 12v ignition switched should be, just a thought, who did the wiring for the swap?

I did the wiring but it was like thise prior to the swap.

oh ok, its going to be a pain in the ass to go through all the wiring but you're gonna have to, check to see where the constant 12v wiring should be and check where the ignition switched 12v should be also check under the steering column make sure nothing is crossed also, but for the easiest thing, just check all the relays under the hood make sure none of them are just sticking

Try looking under your drivers side fender and check out the wiring harness running up there you may have rubbed through it it's pretty common on the s chassis

You know I was thinking of checking that out. The car hasn't moved in so long though. But its worth checking.

Ok so my turn signals work out of no where lol. I'm definately fine with that.

But power still stays on. I noticed when I unplugged the ecu everything shuts off as it should. So could it be my wiring for the swap. I remember this being an issue prior to the new motor going in but idk. Its been so long now.

Nvm on the wiring. I looked it over and everything is wired where it should.

Any other ideas guys. Its weird that it works with the ecu unplugged.

check the brown plug,...i know you said you checked everything, but i guess just for the sake of this thread and trouble shooting.....lol

red/black is ecu back up power i believe, and red is constant (could be viseversa,. but yeah,.)

was the car ever wired up with a turbo timer?,...could have messed that up.

Could also get a test light or multi meter, and check the connections on the ignition. See if they're working the way they are supposed to, or if there is a short/frayed wiring touching any of those connections.

I'm not exactly sure how to test for this lol. And what plug are you refering too? Where is it at?

And it had no turbo timer previously.

I think I can lead you in the right direction. Your problem with the 12v system sounds like and energized relay sticking or something is leaching power from a relay and it can't close or open after ignition is off. Sometimes people improperly install efans or electronics that cause that same effect. Are there any electric fans, or aftermarket electronics on the vehicle at all? I would start there or pull all fuses, 1 at a time until power turns off. I always schedule wiring jobs on cool days because it can take hours to even identify the cause,

I do have any e-fan but I know for sure its not the problem since its not hooked up through any of the engine bay electrical. The power does shut off if it pull out the egi or egi pump relays or the 25amp engin cont fuse. I don't think either of those relays is stickings since I swapped them around and there was no difference. I'm not sure how to test the relays. I looked in my chilton manual but it didn't have anything for that. Maybe the fsm has a procedure for testing these relays.

Just giving a direction to look, as for pinpointing the problem. Pull all fuses and relays except for egi/egipump and the main 75/100amp fuses . Ps idont mean the relay itself is sticking nevermind, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Hey the good news is I just saved a crap load on car insurance.

Congrats on your new insurance rate lol.

But it will turn off with the "eng cont" 25amp fuse pulled out.

I also checked the body harness under the driver side fender well and it was fine.

Ok so i figured out why the power doesn't shut off. My ecu was bad apparently. I pulled it apart to look for signs of it being fried but apparently it was just bad some how. wasnt burnt or anything.

Any bad solder joint or they call it a cold solder joint i think ..some time you need a mag glass to see these littel things if you can find it..just give her a littel solder and you will be good...With the exception of a new ECU..
