I have a fresh sr20 head with Brian Crower Ti Valves, Springs, and Ti retainers. Obviously im going with some cams, but Ive been reading about the BCs failing on people, being shitty, etc...
I just need to know if anyone is running different cams with the BC head kit, such as S3s or S4s or really any cam thats better than the BC.
Anyone have any input on this? Ive searched, but haven't found much on this topic. Thanks

Question:
where are you reading about the BC's failing?
There seems to be a certain miscommunication among the online community, where half of the people testifying that the BC cam's snap are "hearing from a friend, or saw a friends car"... but I to date only really recall one incident documented online about a cam breakage, and it was very suspicious about whether or not the cams were installed correctly. While I agree word of mouth can be a powerful tool in reviewing parts, lately I have seen nothing but good things from BC cams if they are used in appropriate applications.
What specific cam are you interested in, and for what purpose?
Generalized questions like this are difficult to answer, because everyone's needs are different. There is no brand of camshaft which is viewed as the "magic cam that suits all needs".
Your best option is to have a list of particular features you would like your camshaft to have.. lift/duration, solid/hla?

You can use bc valves/springs/retainers with non-bc cam shafts.

The cams themeslves inherently shouldn't fail. Usually user install is the number one reason they break or chip etc etc...that happens regardless of brand.
The big thing is, the cams are known to not make near the power or power band that the JWT or HKS or Tomei cams do. Ontop of that, you end up spending a ton of cash on the entire valvetrain, when you could stick with an easy JWT cam and not bother with it, and make more power.
Do they make power? Sure...I mean the stock 240 camshafts are like broomsticks, so anything is an improvement...but it's been pretty common to find examples of them being bottom shelf items. Consider them the Vladimir of cams....

You can, but why would you? THey are bottom shelf items.
Keep valvetrain components the same. JWT Springs with JWT Cams, HKS Springs with HKS cams. Why? There are a ton of extracirricular things involved with designing springs and stuff to be valvetrain safe

I would agree with Cody Ace regarding the power issue with the cams.
It has been verified that other reputable companies which have put in more R&D regarding cam profile with your specific motor do exist.
That being said, the gentleman does have the components already... I myself also use crower springs and retainers... I find them suitable for my needs... however I personally went with Tomei cams.
That would be an entirely different discussion however.

Thank you daryl and cody, those are the answers I was looking for.
I bought the head with the valves, springs, and retainers already installed, and the 272 BC cams for $300.
If you guys agree that it would be ok, and wouldnt necessarily be detrimental to the motor to use a different cam set, then thats what ill do. Something along the lines of BC valve train with JWT cams. This will be a street car with weekend racing and drifting. I dont know if I want to go with 264 or 272, I want to make good power, but i dont want it to be unbearable to drive. Feel me?
