So, my grandpa's a drag racer and he has a *few*(haha) spare 350's laying around.
I'd be swapping in the carbureted 350 because the simplicity of the swap, and maybe eventually get a fuel injection setup for it. I know that McKinney makes a mount kit for them, and also an oil pan since the 350 is rear sump and won't clear the steering rack/crossmember.
Just got a few questions to those who might have done this swap.
1. What headers did you use? Block huggers? Or just custom?
2. Any modification to the firewall/trans tunnel needed with McKinney Mounts?
3. Do I even need my ECU or engine harness afterwards, or can I just remove it?
4. Any possible way to use the stock gauge cluster? I'd want the speedometer and tachometer. Of course I could make a custom cluster but I'd prefer to use the stock cluster. Any possible way?
This is just a thought. I have a built KA in the car now...but I don't see the point of keeping it if I can almost triple my power for less than $1000. I know someone is going to come in and say, "Why not do LS1, it's lighter and blah blah blah blah blah?" Well, cause I don't have that kind of money, I'd be getting the 350 for free.
And here's a video of our drag car for those who are interested:
