sr20 no start after driving.

Today I tried to actually drive my sr20 powered car.

I got down the street, doing good until i try to actually accelerate more than a grandma.

Misfire and stutter is what i got. Spark plugs are ngk iridiums bkr7e gapped to .030.

I make it back to my driveway after a mile or so, and stall.

The car will not crank anymore. Wiring is not the problem. Its all ace.

I give the car a few minutes and try to check over things while cranking it periodically.

Turns over fine, not start. Pulled the plugs and they were filthy with black soot after 1 mile and some idle.

Motor is smoking occasionally. Nothing is constant though.

Put the plugs back in, put the car is gear while tying to start and it does...drive it into my garage and turned it off. Would not start up after that. let the car cool down because it was kinda hot. After 45 minutes the car will fire up like it should.

This makes no sense to me. I dont even know where to begin. Ive been having trouble wih it dieing while idling, but thats about it besides the interminent smoke that is hard to distiguish. Its been black, grey and white at different times.

Compression is good as well.

Also found my belts wet and oil aling the front of the engine, its spraaying out where my headgasket is. Searches have led me to believe that my front seal did not have silicone applied properly, which isnt so bad since ive got to install my new oil pan anyway.

All my vacuum leaks have been taken care of by a sr20 experienced shop.

Im pretty sure my ignition timing is off
I cant get under the vc because of a stripped stud. Fml

The throttle has a weird response and all the stutter and lack of throttle response leads me to believe my ignition timing is off. But could being off time really cause all this?

yes, if you are getting fuel and spark at the incorrect time you can have a massive loss in power. Also the soot on your plugs is a really good indicator that your not buring fuel efficiently (obviously haha) which points to your timing. I know a lot of people who had the same symptoms as you and after they reset their timing it ran like a top.

Sounds like a good ole case of the coolant temperature sensor, replace it.
