View Full Version : Sealing fuel rail to manifold

Hey guys. I just pressure tested the intake system to check for boost leaks. I've got a pretty major leak between the fuel rail and the manifold (around the large rubber insulators)

The problem comes from the piece of shit freddy manifold. The spacing between the injectors is just slightly off, so that injector #2 doesn't line up dead on with the manifold. So once I get it seated, the insulator is pushed to one side, causing a leak on the other. No matter how many times I've re-seated the rail, it still leaks.

Anyone else have this problem? I was thinking about trying some silicone between the rail and insulator, but wanted to see if anyone else has a better idea. Obviously a new greddy manifold would fix it, but i'm a 240 owner.... Maybe I could make a new insulator from a solid piece of rubber with an offset hole for the injector? Lets brainstorm

well either get a better manifold

OR

elongate the fuel rail mounting holes so you can shift the rail over to help seal it better

ya, but all the other injectors line up fine, it's just #2 that is off a little bit. So shifting the whole rail would just exchange 1 leak for 5...

It might, wasnt sure on how big the leak was, I fig it was small so you could shift it just enough to seal that one with a little pressure on the others

well it's worth a shot, thanks for the idea

$800 for a greddy is a little steep though...

$800.00 for any performance is part is not steep. You are in the wrong hobby then my friend. But you could try an isis manifold and see if its better. Hopefully it is then your only out 400.00 or so on cheap knocks offs. But if it isnt, well then either another 200.00 on another knock or 800.00 on the real deal plus labor for the third time. Just the labor alone is worth 2x the ching chong manifold. Even if you do it for free by your self, that is still time I would have much rather spend driving my car or playing with my kids. My free time per hour is way more expensive than any of the brand name parts. Pay once and install it once.... done-

If you have a GT2871R and cams, it is a great investment.

Makes you spool about 500 RPM later, but lengthens your powerband by about 1500 RPM, increasing your hp, and allowing you to use higher RPM (better, bc of the fact that it's better to be in a lower gear at high RPM due to mechanical advantage).
