SO i got to college in south GA and i never have problems with cold temperatures so when i came back home for winter break i forgot to increased my antifreeze mixture. short story short lol my whole coolant system froze two days ago.

Now when i fill the radiator up once i get to the top water starts pouring out of the back of the head area. I started it for about 10 seconds and it was running pretty rough. any ideas? Im hoping freez plugs not a head gasket...Oh S14 SR20DET

how bad pouring if your heater hose got blocked by a chunk of ice the pressure may have popped off a heater hose... just maybe a possitive problematic simple fix GL...

stick a hose in the RAD and look for where the water is pouring out of.

If your lucky its just a freeze plug

Although the running rough part makes me think H/G
do a compression test while your at it

True, I had a Similar issue.

Had straight water in the system since I had a slow leak somewhere, kept filling it with water eventually displacing the Antifreeze. Car sat up for 6months due to wiring issues, Forgot about it, I was out of town when this place had a flash freezing week (out of the ordinary weather for here)

Engine and Rad pretty much froze solid (Engine was like a snow cone Ice but solid in some areas)

Not one freeze plug popped. thawed it out fill it with Antifreeze charged the battery... Fired right up ran great.

but my engine is fully built and running a MLG and ARP Studs.

I got lucky

I'll bet its your freeze plugs. There are two on the back of the head and I just recently replaced one for this exact reason... Maybe that's the first one to go? You need to reach back there and see if you can find the hole.

If it is this one, I'll go ahead and tell ya, the motor has to come out to get it pressed in.... I've tried everything

Another note, when the IACV doesn't have a good coolant signal the SR won't idle for shit. Hopefully that's your problem.

Thanks everyone for your input i appreciate your info, ill be taking the car to my friends grandfathers garage and putting some time in next week lol.

I got luckyand thats exactly the same reason i didnt have half half antifreeze lol, slow leak on my turbo coolant lines (i ordered ss lines with new washers and this happened while i was waiting on them in the mail haha) NOT COOL!...l

Yep.. that's also what happened to my SR, but it wasn't SOLID ice but more like little slushes because I had some antifreeze maybe 70/30 or something..

I made sure to add more antifreeze, I hope it's nothing big! GL!
