hello was just wondering what are the pros and cons to running a bov hotpipe or just a plain hotpipe without a bov? will my turbo wear out noticably quicker? i just like the flutter sound without the bov and was just wondering what are the pros and cons to not running a bov?

thanks!

The Blow off valve protects the turbo from surging. Surge (or stalling) the compressor will certainly shorten its' lifespan, and cause it to fail. While ball bearing turbos supposedly withstand surge/stalling better, I would still suggest running a BOV on those setups.

Some no BOV helps response, other say it hurts. In my personal experience I think they hurt performance and response, but I'm an 'as OEM' type owner.

get BOV and recirculate it. depending how much boost you run and spring rate you use, you might loose plenty of boost when the BOV release in the atmosphere.

PRO- Let the pressurized air out the piping re-leaving it from Turbo surge that ruins your typical T25's T28' turboes.

CON- Turbo surge that decrease the life of your turbo, and slowing down the spool of the turbo.

You think about it, the turbo is pushing air in one direction, then you get off the throttle and the pressurized air will bounce back straight toward the turbo against it.

a BOV that is recirculated keeps that turbo spinning consistently.

HKS SSQV offer their TYPE II with a recirculator neck. Ive owned one for my STi. and it makes a lot of difference betweent open BOV and recirculated. Especially on low RPM.
