I've got a basically stock ka24e 5speed with an auto ecu that just losses power completly (bogs) at 5500rpm in 2nd gear, 4500rpm in 3rd, 4000rpm in 4th, and 3500rpm in 5th. This is really starting to get on my nerves because I can't go over 85mph. earlier. It wasn't pulling hard at all so I put a new ecu in that I had laying around and that fixed my power problem but not the bogging issue. Its got a new o2 sensor, new plugs, new coolant temp sensor, and I cleaned the maf.
Please help me figure this out. I have searched for a while and can't find anything that helps.

Dude, I had the same engine cuz I own an 89, but I bought it AT. I did a 5spd conversion, and it ran glorious even though I kept my AT ecu. It may just be a minor motor issue, or mis wiring?

Pilot bearings are really cheap and you should really change it any time you disconnect the engine and tranny just for good measure. It's so cheap and simple to do that it doesn't make sense not to.
On the other part, it sounds more like a ECU or electronic issue since it's such a uniform change for each gear.

There's a real simple trick to change the pilot bearing to you don't even need a actual tool. Before you read the instructions let me tell you I'm really not kidding on this cause I got my last one out with this same method.
Parts:
** news paper
** punch a littler smaller than the inside of the pilots hole
** hammer
** water
How to:
Take some news paper and soak it with water. Stuff that in the hole for the pilot bearing. Stick the punch in and hammer the paper into the hole. As it sinks in add some more wet paper and continue. Within a minute or so the pilot bearing will start an continue to pop out until it comes all the way out.
There you go, no special tool and all you lost was a page in the paper you didn't want any way.

Its actually a stock 5 speed I didn't do a conversion. I'm just running an auto ecu.

Have you tried getting some one with a ECU out of a running manual to let you borrow theirs for a run. It's not that hard to swap and check, it would at least let you eliminate that as a possible issue.
