I owned a Cressida once, MX73, way cooler than the MX83, but like...aftermarket support = 0%. Therefore, I sold it, and got a 240SX with aftermarket support of 500%, and a ripoff support of 800%.

240 owners = rip you off

Cressida owners = old people that are finally buying a new buick. Much easier to work with and are easy going, make good deals, etc.

Cressidas are cool, when they are done right. I've only seen two in my life done right, the white one pictured above^ and the MX83 that competed in Formula D Pro AM in 2009 I believe it was (with the R32 that won). It's grey/silver, kitted, 1JZ, etc.

There is no aftermarket support for them, therefore everything was very hard to find and custom make. For a young guy like me, it was to big of a challenge. It was super fun to slide though. I sold it and got a car with 500% aftermarket support, and 800% ripoff support, the S13.

Imo, like I've always said, they look like shit. Super 80s style all boxy and stuff. Might as well call a Maxima from the 80s cool too. Oh but the Cressy is rwd so it makes it so much cooler. It's kinda like that girl in high school who was ok looking, but because she showed a bit of skin and put out, it made her like 300% hotter hahaha. The Cressy trend is an interesting one.
Once in a blue moon you'll find one with sick fitment, but that's about it. The fitment distracts everyone else from the lameness of the rest of the car haha.

almost every car can look good. some need a certain style. a lot of people dont care for the slammed, kitted, crazy offset cars. a cressida would need a few if not all of these to make it look decent.

people are getting poor so they buy a 20 yr old pos and are able to put some money into it. if i had the bank roll and an extra spot in the garage i would buy one and swap a 2jz in it and bust up sports cars all day.

I have an MX73. I think it's sort of dumb to buy one as a drift platform, there are lots of other cars with more potential and better aftermarket.

I just wanted a zokusha, and it serves this purpose pretty well (although I'd have gotten an MX32 instead if I could've found one). I grabbed a big obnoxious grachan lip off YJA, some SSR Mk1's, T3 coils, 5spd swap, etc.

While I may well try to do an event in it when it's done, it will probably suck, and I'm at peace with this because that isn't what it's for.

IMHO: Cressidas are ugly. MX30 and MX73's are okay if they're done in a "classic", "old school", or boso style. The headlights on MX83's are straight up ugly. A kit (serialnine) helps but they really need a chaser or mark II conversion to look good. The reason everyone tries to roll in them is because their successors (JZX81/90/100/110) are so awesome.

Why Cressida's are becoming(or became) trendy
They are 4 door and rwd: budget VIP car... can there be such a thing?
You can kind of make them driftable
They can be cheaper than a 240 if you do it all your self

honestly, if you have to define a cool car as in, it sucks and is ugly stock but you can body kit and modify to all hell.... well then that is just fucking retarded. But then again everyone's definition of cool will change. So if you don't think its cool, that's fine, some one else will.

I don't think cressida's look bad, they can be very plush and comfy. The aftermarket is there, just not like Civics or 240s, but you can get trick stuff. I'm glad that Toyota decided to make them again IS300.

The fact the car doesnt have big aftermarket support goes in to the decision of the car being wack. I like them i guess maybe because my bro picked one up and i trying to defend him on some level.

JZX81 and MX83 are two completely different animals, roof line and trunk are wayy different mannnnnnn. I heart the JZX81 just as much i do not dig the Cressida. Of course you know this, I just hope you don't hurt your car's feelings by lumping it into the same category.

I love s chassis.. at the same time I finally sold mine because to many little trendy groupie drifters in my area drive them around as fast as a ka24 can go with a fart can thinking there sick cause they can chirp 2nd. I own a 1990 mx83 cressida with ls1/t56. I put largus front and rear sways, moded kts super low s13 coils with different spring rates, mx73 rack, welded diff. This car is out of control.. super angle super dead slides.. I can get this thing to do whatever I want. Yeh there not the cleanest looking car especially stock. In order to own a cressida you must be able to fabricate.. s chassis owners just buy parts that bolt on. I have been die hard nissan since day one.. but i just wanted something different.

This is getting there. Needs lower and less poke in front, but definitely the right direction. I dig the whaletail & mirrors. Chin spoiler looks sorta like mine, but I don't have the holes. What car is the whaletail from? 15's, right?

I don't get the people doing x7's with 17's, it looks dumb. Ideal is like 13x9f and 13x10r, scraping. Pull the bumpers off, angled headlights, takeyari, etc. Even better if you can do rivet-ons and add 2 inches of width to both front/rear.

I think the aero'd up x8's look cool, but you have to get it *just right* or it comes off like you inherited grandmas car and riced it out.

i use to have a white mx83 2jz/1jz. they are fun cars, roomy big 4dr, decent wheelbase & suspension and you can put in a JZ motor in them fairly easy. they have unlimted potenial just like the 240 does.. just that there is a lot of turn offs that keep people away from the car... be it looks or performance. You really can't say much until you own one. plain & simple

I think as long as you spend enough money and effort, any car can looks nice. however, you might not able to get your investment back at the time of selling or insurance claim. I personally think it would be a better choice if you just get a manual IS300 or G35 sedan at first place for better performance and value.

No doubt Hyper Tek, the fact still remains that this thread is pointless. A 20 year old sedan is a car that you have to love, despite what anybody else says. Its a car that you have to put your own heart and style into. Its a car you have to fab up over half of all parts for, and not expect write ups and walkthroughs and a billion aftermarket choices for. Its not a car that you decide to buy because a thread on Zilvia said it was a "cool car" therefore this thread is a waste. It is very similar to a FC in the sense that its not "easy quick and cheap" to work on and mod like a S-Chassis. see my deal is everyone and their mom has a 240... and if the stock power plant was so amazing why is it that i personally put jz series motors in 5 S chassis and the new cool thing is the ls1,2,3,7etc. swaps... a 240 is cool but you would be hard pressed to do something orginal with that chassis... but all i know is when i roll up on some fanboy in a 240 with an sr swap and he laughs at what he thinks is a slammed camry and then i blow the doors off that pos with a 1j on stock boost and he goes wtf is that and all i do is laugh at his cookie cutter ass nissan...
