We recently I noticed that I have oil in my charge pipes so I was thinking, maybe time for a new turbo ya? I'm gonna get a catch tank just in case to see, but at any rate I wanted to swap back to a stock t25 because my t28 was making the car run too lean without a retune. I have a spare t25 lying around but I am not sure as to the condition, maybe someone can help? Here is what it's got:

-exhaust portion is very very black (where turbine and wastegate hole is)
-spider and cobwebs everywhere
-does not spin freely, but no noticeable contact with the housings
-has no play back the forth(as in trying to move the shaft in and out of the housing), but has a noticeable amount of play up and down and side to side.
-unknown condition internally (was given to me by a friend)

Should this turbo be safe to run? If not, is anyone selling a good condition t25 lol?

are any of the blades clipped or is the turbo bb? the turbine should spin with relative ease and shouldn't get stuck anywhere. You mite have to open it up and inspect it

I don't see any chips, although the blades are super blackened on the rear so it is hard to tell. My theory for why it doesn't spin freely is that it has been sitting for about 3-4 years. Most turbos when you take them off have a little oil left in the center, so they spin pretty well but this one has been sitting, is that correct to guess?

that could be the case, but that gives you more reason to open it up and take a look, if its stuck then you have to clean it up before you can use it.

Oil in charges pipes COULD be turbo, but could equally as well be oil droplets from the head (blowby) draining downhill out of the front of the valve cover "tee" down into the intake.

Please tell us what your valve cover to intake vacuum setup is like.

It's stock except for the stock oil catch tank was removed, that's why I think it could also just be the blowbye, but it is more than I'm used to seeing. The turbo I got was a used t28 from a gtir, I think im the third owner at the very least, ross petty had it before I did (on a drift car i think), I redid the compressor o-ring and got a new hot side for it (old one cracked), but never the oil seals.

I'm more interested though in putting a t25 back on, and figuring out if I can just use the one I have or if I have to find a new one...
