Hey guys,

So I was out of town last week and I let my mom borrow my car. As she was coming home and climbing a slight incline on the highway (805s just south of the 8 to be exact) the car lost power completely and she had to get over to the shoulder. The car couldn't be started again and was towed home. So I get into town and have started messing with it and can't seem to figure out why its not starting. When I put the key in I hear the fuel pump prime and when I crank it, it just spins continually, it doesn't seem to want to kick over. I checked the main fuses they're all good, I noticed the car doesn't stink of gas when I try for a minute or two so I'm thinking the fuel pump could be the culprit. Any other idea's? Car is 1995 Auto BTW

maybe alternator?

What leads you to think alternator? The car would start without an alternator it just wouldn't run very long as it would drain the battery.

If anyone has any sort of idea let me know, I'm going to do a comp test tomorrow to make sure that's all good.

distributor? if the pump primes it's probably fine.

if you can hear the pump then that should be alright. Pull the fuel filter adn see if you get gas to that point. then put the filter back on and see if you get gas through it. If thats good check the injectors. Then start on ignition. Check spark from the coil, and dizzy. Its a ka so it shouldnt be that hard to figure out whats wrong with it

Are 95 and 96 dizzy's the same? I assume they would be, I can swap the distributor off of my 96 to see if that does it. Should I swap just the cap or the entire thing?

Its too bad you were not in the car to tell us what the symptoms were as it died. If it was up a hill, I'd bet faulty ground or positive cable. They do rust and corrode.

Spins continuously without the sound of any compression? If so, the timing chain and or gear may have broke within the front cover. At freeway rpm/speed, valves will bend causing a no compression "Spin Continuously" symptom.

A compression check is need.

At any point of the rotation should the chain (on the cams) be slacked or should it be fully tensioned at all times

Fully tensioned, now you gotta set the timing if you have spark, fuel and crank.

I set the timing and it keeps popping off I think I might have a stretched chain and a bad tensioner
