Hey guys , so yesterday i wanted to fire up my motor after completing my rebuild but i havent gotten to do that yet. before i could fire up the motor i had to make a few adjustments with my AEM EMS computer, one of those things was so calibrate my throttle range. so i go through the steps involved and the tps is unresponsive. Im using a Q45 throttle body on a greddy style manifold.

i've tried playing around with the wiring for the clip but i get no result, its still not seeing any voltage.

here is one thing i noticed when i was trying to trouble shoot my problems. on the big blue clip that clips into the ecu i looked at port number 56 which is the throttle sensor output signal ... there is no wire coming out of it , its just an empty port ?? all i have to say about that is ... wtf. Or am i looking at the wrong thing ?

has anyone ever dealt with this type of issue ?

Is the AEM responding to the sensor input?

You should be able to see voltage over time or voltage response in the TPS wizard somewhere, this is an easy and fast way to make sure you have connectivity and feedback.

If you are a customer of mine, let me know, maybe I can help you over the phone tonight!

Heyy Steve !! Its Rob from canada actually. You just finished my tune haha.

I was going through the throttle range calibration and the AEM would not respond to it. After i did the calibration the throttle would stay at 100% .

I did some testing with a multimeter and the tps was getting power but when i tested the signal wire i was getting no reading.

I got a RB20 TPS off a friend and swapped it with the Q45 TPS. I looked closely at the Q45 tps and it looked to be a little melted so maybe the tps sensor was just eff'd .

i'll see how it works tommorrow.

Update !

I've been tinkering around and i've come up with some new results.

I've goten a rb20 tps and i have the same problem ..hm. Results are also the same with the Q45 tps.
I noticed before that i had a wire missing from my ecu clip out of pin 56 ( throttle sensor output signal ). I put a wire into that pin and tied it into the signal wire out of the tps.
What happened here was that i was getting a voltage reading, YES!. but not so much to celebrate about. the lowest voltage reading i got was like 1.8 but it rarely gets that low , usually voltage is around 2.5 when the throttle is closed and the maximum reading i get is like 4.5 volts when i open the throttle.
Now when i tie into the old existing signal wire i get a voltage reading of 0.02 volts and it does not go up when i open the throttle.

The AEM EMS still does not recognize the change in throttle when i try to set the throttle range , it still stays at 100%..

Another Update :

I talked to the guy who did my harness for this car a few years ago today and all he told me that with pin 56 the only reason why a wire was missing is because skylines with 4 wheel drive need this wire. didnt really give me much.

Anyways i tried testing the voltage again but with the stock ecu plugged in. It gets power , 5 volts , nothing from the signal wire though. But when i tested the signal with the wire thats wired into pin 56 i get 0.5V when the throttle is closed, but hope fell short once i opened the throttle completely the volts only maxed out at 2.4V.

I wonder if this is an ECU issue now ? or is pin 56 the wrong pin to wire in to ?

eh?

Wrong pin, check the aem documentation, it contains a pin out of the ecu with stock functions as well as aem functions.

Update :

I took my wiring harness out of my car and traced the signal wire.

I found that a ground wire is spliced into the signal wire way down the harness.

would this have any effect ? im thinking it does.

can anyone clarify , thanks.

eh?

Are you sure it's spliced and it's not just the shielding?
