Hi, im rebuilding my S14 SR20DET

This is how I set the timing chain up
made sure crankshaft was TDC
With the front cover off I made sure the silver link on the chain matched the dot on the sprocket on the crank (dot was about at 4.5 or 5oclock
on the INTAKE camshaft I aligned the dowel pin to 10oclock
on the EXHAUST camshaft I aligned the dowel pin to 12oclock
I put the camshaft sprockets on looks like it lined up good and put the chain tensioner back on

if i turn the crank over a few times the dots on the camshaft sprockets dont line up with the links on the chain no more

how do I know if this is setup correctly with out putting the motor back in the car and hitting it with a timing gun?

Thats normal

If you were to keep turning it over it will eventually line up again

as long as you set the timing marks correctly its fine

This is normal. If you rotate the engine all the way around to TDC again, all your timing marks should be lined up. Just make sure that the Cam Angle Sensor is lined up correctly when you put it back on, otherwise you will be too far advanced or retarded.

as long as you have dots to silver links then you're always dead on.... thats why i love timing chains.... you're good to go bro.

like they said..whenever you turn the crank they will never line up again till they hit that one part of the rotation that will line it back up.... 4 cycles? (dont quote me on that).

You should have ten links in between the intake and exhuast cam. No the timing marks will not line up once you turn the engine over. At least i havent seen it. If its set its set!!!!

link you cant mess up thanks to FRsport.
