I feel stupid/drive shaft question...

so I am just about to finish my sr (s14sr into s14 chassis) and have started to get a bit worried about my shoice of drive shaft. when I first ordered it (a drive shaft shop aluminum one piece) it was almost 2 years ago(yeah I know, I work slow) and I bought an abs model drive shaft because I assumed that since my car was an SE that it had ABS. low and behold I actually decide to check to see if I do or Don't have ABS and it look like I don't. I installed the drive shaft about an hour ago and it seems to fit alright, but I don't know for sure one way or the other.

so my basic question is can I use an ABS drive shaft in a NON-ABS car? pic related, I took it as a reference.




I searched around but the only things I found were in reference to s13's with s14 transmissions or people trying to use a non abs drive shaft in an abs car. and for some reason when I try to refine my search to be more specific it just takes to a blank screen.

abs shaft is shorter since the diff is a little longer than non abs. so to put it simply you can't use an abs driveshaft with a non abs car. i'm sure there are ways to mickey mouse your way around it, but you're better off getting the right part the first time.

not a bad idea, are all vlsd's abs? when I was trying to decode the vin the find out what the car does and doesn't have I noticed the options that include the vlsd always seem to include abs.

I deffinately made the same mistake!(abs shaft with non-abs diff) I hurried up and put the driveshaft in, not even checking to see if the shaft was all the way into the transmission and tranny fluid went everywhere! Good to know I'm not the only one that feels stupid lol

It pretty much goes without saying on USDM vehicles the cars with VLSD's had ABS the packages usually came together. The J30 diff will work the S14 VLSD will work. USDM S13 VLSD will work they will all have ABS sensors on the snouts. Z32's had the sensor rings on the output shafts.

Diffs with ABS sensors on the snout are 1/2 longer than non ABS diffs. Oh and yes there were JDM VLSD's with ABS and without.
