Hey guys have a real question about oil pressure and I have searched and could not find anything. I posted a thread here about my oil pressure dropping with the a/c on. Now I reduced the idle back down and have not been messing with it but my oil pressure seems to be bouncing around a little at idle. It will fluctuate like from 13-18 psi while I have some big cams in there, I still have not noticed it doing this before? I experience no problems when it gets to normal operating temperatures or it does not bounce around while under load. I however have noticed it drop a lot when decleratering. It could be at 60 psi then jump to 45 or so psi and then drop back to normal. I know the autometer oil sending units are a little touchy but what does it sound like to you guys?

id try swapping out the sending unit, ive been thru 2 so far. im prollly gonna try a different brand altogether tho.

i got a shitty stewart warner gauge, also have bigger cams but don't has A/C.
My idle idle fluctuates sometimes even dips real low, the oil press never goes under 18psi though. 13psi is kind of pushing it on the low side i'd get another gauge setup and check it or try removeing the A/C belt.

also how did you mount your sensor, it should be horizontal or facing upwards so no air can get trapped in front of it

I used the Nisport adapter. I do not know it did not do it as bad now when the sun went down. I have been at 18 lbs of boost for over 18 months now. It is like I expect to blow my engine up or something. The oil pressure is rock solid under load -- it is only under idle does it hunt around a little. I think the car would run a whole lot better if I recirculated the BOV. That could play a lot with bouncy idle and the fluctuation in which I see.

For what it's worth, my oil pressure on a cold start is like 50-60 at idle, and then increases up to about 90 or so with revs.

When the engine is fully warm, I see about 20 psi at idle (800-900 RPM) and ramping up to around 60 at higher RPM

about what rpm should it be hitting 60psi while drive. On the quick test drive i took in mine a week or so ago i was about 60psi areound 2500-3000range if im not mistaken? is that too high to soon?

idle cold its 60 then drops to about 20 or so around 900rpm. so everything seems fine. i would assume

do you recirc your BOV? and if not does your idle surge a little and bounce around?

according to FSM at 3500 rpm it should be around 35-60 psi when warm

damn thats pretty high, i have a brand new pump and it shows about 45psi on a cold start and about 32-35ish when warm mine is also not eletronic mine goes straight off the oil. and mine goes to about 50ish when wide open.

electronic sending units can be a little touchy but if your line busts then you have oil everywhere.
