KA-T Guys, what HG do you run?

Everyone says the Fel-Pro sucks, and everyone says the Cometic sucks. So what the hell? Should I just run OEM?

I was planning on running a cometic, because I had my block resurfaced to a roughness average of 50, which is per cometic instructions...

Also, anyone know of a full engine gasket kit that's decent for a cheap price?

Not a lot of choice for KA really. Cometic is fine as long as the block and head are re-surfaced for a good seal. Fel-Pro is not bad too for a basic rebuild.

Yeah..I want to use a Cometic. I've just heard so many horror stories about how they leak or don't seal. But then I've also read that it's usually because of user error... i.e didnt resurface the block/head, etc.

Why not just use ARP head studs with an OEM HG?


Here are the specs of my KA
-Eagle Forged Rods
-Supertech 8.6:1 Forged Pistons
-89.5 MM bore
-Supertech Valvetrain w/ stock cams (for now)
-Dont have turbo yet, but i will be looking for around 300WHP.

You guys think I'll be fine running this?

Reading your specs.. just go to Metal HG and ARP studs.

I've had both in my Ka-t with similar specs.

IMO i'd go with OEM or Felpro mainly for the reasons that the horror stories are true.

First I had a cometic and it didnt seal for shit even with the block/head decked. If you've ever seen a cometic gasket mated to the block you'll notice they blocked off all the coolant passages that keep the block cool. After I installed the felpro gasket I noticed a 5 degree cooling difference and havent had any leaks or problems since.

i havent had a problem with the felpro. neither has my buddy and hes been running over 350hp daily for the last 2+ years.

i never heard people say felpro/oem sucks though.

For what it's worth...the headgasket is NOT the weak link on a stock-block KA.

If you still have stock pistons, then it kinda doesn't matter what headgasket you use, as the pistons will break before you blow a headgasket from detonation.

That said...OEM is fine, FelPro is fine.

Cometic *may* be a better choice for a high-HP build...but that depends on a number of other factors.
