YOU need to physically check for Fuel and spark.

Also check the ECU for codes

How can physically check the spark doe??? N idk how to check for codes :/

hey im in the same situation with you. if your cranking and its not starting your flooding the cylinder with fuel. i smell gas too when i crank. check for spark. mine was obviously not sparking so i changed it to a new set and it started but it bogged then died cuz my cylinder was flooded with fuel. so take out your spark plugs and check if they spark. if they do just leave out the spark plug and let the fuel evaporate out of the cylinder over night

replacement spark plugs would be off a sentra right??? just to make sure lol

240rabbit

okay so to check for the spark just put em on the over coil but not inside the block??
(spark plug with overcoil being outside???)

^^most plugs are pre-gapped, gap to spec is up to you

Any codes like he asked?

Wild shot but pop the lid of your ECU and see if the circuit in the red rectangle is all burnt out like in this picture.

No they dont.

.36 is incorrect. .28 is the correct Gap.

You might have a leaky injector. pully off fuel rail with fuel lines attached
place on top of a paper bag and turn the Key to "ON" NOT START, so the fuel pump turns on. If fuel comes out then the O-rings need to be replace.

Well okay wen i use to crank it the smell from gas wouldnt be on the intake side, but it would be on the exhaust side.
I dont have no downpipe connected at da momment but the turbo elbow with the O2 sensor is connected.
And i already took out the spark plugs n im waiting to get sum cash maybe 2moro so i can buy sum spark plugs

So i got the new spark plugs in n i went to get my battery charged n i thought it was cuz it was low charged that my engine cranked slow but it still
does.
Bad grounding??? What could be the reason???

Reading your posts gives me a headache, did you actually check for spark or not? Get a spark plug hook it up to the ignitor, put it againts the head, and crank it.

Yup, just to elaborate on this a little bit: You wanna put the spark plug in the boot, and touch the spark plug end to something metal, making sure to hold the assembly on the RUBBER. While touching the plug to something metal, have a friend turn the engine over. You should see a nice, thick blue spark. A white spark is not sufficient, it should be blue. Sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference if its very sunny. A white spark is a weak spark, but shouldn't prevent the engine from starting. We're looking to rule out NO spark as a symptom.

Also... we'd REALLY appreciated it if you took a little more time to reread your posts. It just makes it 10x easier to understand what youre saying. Proper english may be overrated in texts, but here on the forums, we love it. :)

Yea okay thanks and will do.
i ran into another problem though, my starter gave up already on me, just clicks.
Can i still conduct the spark test knowing it wont crank over???
Or is cranking neccesary to see spark???

You sure your battery just isnt dead?

To test for spark, you can take the CAS out and rotate it manually and check the spark to see if it fires. Either stick an insulated screwdriver in the coil and watch for an arc or see if it arcs with the plug in there.

I just took my battery yesterday to get charged so i highly doubt it that it is the battery.

Im a newb so bare with me lol
So i take off the CAS and manually turn it. How do i turn it manually though???

It spins - take it out and spin the end piece that attaches the exhaust side cam sprocket while the key is in the ignition. It simulates the motor turning and therefor the injectors/spark plugs start firing.

You can test injectors/spark plugs this way. You'll see the rotational end. It takes like 0 effort to turn it...

Will do :) and thanks

Get the motor to TDC first though. Makes retiming easy.

240rabbit
06-28-2010, 03:48 PM
Ooo so if i do this its gonna take it out of timming???
Or it needs to be TDC in order for me to this with the CAS???

renegade_ewok
06-28-2010, 04:01 PM
Nah, you put it at TDC so you can take it out, play with it, and then just put the CAS back on the timing mark, drop it in, and start it back up.

240rabbit
06-28-2010, 04:21 PM
Wow the CAS is so hard to take out!!!

240rabbit
06-28-2010, 04:26 PM
So i took it out and manually spinned it and i dont see any spark what so ever but i do hear clicks, im not sure if they exactly are comming from the injectors but it sounds like it does???

renegade_ewok
06-28-2010, 04:27 PM
You need to take out two bolts and then pry with a screwdriver. Its not hard.

I bet your swap didnt come with an ignitor, this thing. http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k63/eazye4you/ignitor.jpg And i can pretty much guarantee that you will put the CAS back in wrong, follow this guide and please dont fuck up your car.http://www.frsport.com/How-To-Set-Crank-Angle-Sensor--CAS--Timing-on-the-SR20DET-Engine_t_25.html

i tried a couple minutes ago to see if i can get any codes off the ecu, because i just learned how to do so (screw the thing clockwise den counter clock wise)
i did this n everything in electronic just went crazy!!!
the fuel pump sounded like it pumping alot, the automatic seatbelt was stuttering, and the ecu looking box between the 2 seats started clicking a lot :(

wut the heck did i do :/ im afraid to touch the damn thing lol

or do a simple vacuum leak/boost leak test with a home made leak tester and soap and water I would think.

i'm sorry but if u need this much help u should really go to a garage. everything that u r saying is something that someone with experience can help u with. doesn't matter about what motor it is. and u should really not be trouble shooting if u don't know how to check spark. that's something that most newbs know. i know that u r just starting out but do ur research before tackling a problem like this. and i'm not trying to hate on u just giving it to u how it is.

I agree ^^ theres no shame in it especially if you're just starting out. THats how you learn is by others showing you but on the internet thats impossible. Take it to a shop before you really mess things up.

who preped to wire harness for you?

greenzenki86
06-29-2010, 03:37 AM
check your injectors, also check your fuel pressure as well, try to use carb cleaner to see if that gets it to at least fire up. also get a fsm if you can and be sure you wired it all correctly, if this is your first time swap by yourself dont be suprised cas we all run into problems on our first one.

i probally am gonna take it to get fixed up by sumone who really knows because yea i am a newb n my knowledge is only limited on this but yea im pretty satisfied of how far ive gotten bymyself :)
-took old engine out
-5 speed swap
-put the sr in
-did the wiring myself from the wiring diagram frsports shows
-but yea i just aint all that good yet with the electrical side of this yet lol
