that threads can be locked 5 days or somethign like that after no replies? keeps away the people who post useless info on dead threads.

imho, if its that important, start a new thread w/ a link to the old one.

This is a double edged sword imho. Folks often are quick to blast people for not searching however when they do search and post to the "old thread" other folks chime in not to dredge up dead threads.

I think the stupid comments/posts are as inevitable as people not searching, locking threads would just mean crossposting and would/could make useful additions impossible to track let me give you an example.

Post 1: July 2001... bob is making non-popup lights
Post 2: September 2002 tom made the lights out of fiberglass and links old post
Post 3: March 2003 billy finds post one and asks if it was ever successfully done and promptly gets flamed for not searching.

This could have been avoided if tom got to add to post one rather than make a second post.

Admittedly there is no way make everyone happy; however, flaming is counterproductive and the less we have of it the better.
