So im doing an rb26 swap on my 1990 240sx, i have almost everything i need.
but.. i was wondering if anyone has any information on the mass air flow sensors. Anyone know if I could use 300zx non turbo MAFS or does it have to be the 300zx twin turbo MAFS?

IIRC, Z32 MAFs are upgrades even on an RB26.

I'm asking because some mechanics say that its better to get a Z32 twin turbo mass air flow sensor just because it reads boost.
does it really matter or no?

Reads boost?!?! Its a MAF not a MAP sensor...

a z32 maf is an upgrade it is an n62 (the last 3 digits on the maf's sticker), it can accurately read MORE air mass than an rb26 stock maf which is an n70.
none of these mafs are designed to read boost as all of them are on the intakes BEFORE the turbo from the factory...however all of these mafs CAN be moved in the intercooler piping where there obviously IS boost....
for educational purposes however a mass air flow sensor does not measure boost, it measures the air mass flowing by it's element whether it be pressurized or sucked through it. mass air flow meters measure air mass, manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensors read pressure and vacuum.
to help you with this matter however....the calibration and signals of the two mafs in question are different and will not work UNLESS you have something to change/calibrate the signals.
you can use an apexi safc (safc2, or safc neo) in order to do this, you can use a tuned ecu, or a fully adjustable stand alone unit like a power fc or aem ems as well.
if you were to simply wire in the z32 mafs and start the car it would start and idle...well should start and idle, but it'd run like crap because the signals are different.
it can definitely be done and has been done many times, you just need something to calibrate the differing maf signals if you upgrade to the z32 mafs.
hope that all makes sense,
Dave

thanks man, it's very helpful. My mechanic has been trying to tell me alot of incorrect information... So I'm switching mechanics to get the job done right. Thank you
Also, to answer the original question, both the NA and TT use the N62 maf. Both are one and the same.

:hyper:
What are you saying....?!
The NA and TT are different. 300zxN/A:N60, 300zx TT:N62..VG30DE (maxima, and infiniti [not 300zx]) =E60...

For anyone that comes across this thread in the future let it be known that all 300zx mafs are n62 and are the maf you want to run. z32 mafs from any 300zx (turbo or otherwise) are the mafs capable of 500hp flow before maxing out voltage.
