hello people, this is my first time in these type of forum. I understand that you guys all help each other with your vehicles. I dont exactly know how the site works. so let me know what i need to do to get some info on my car.
my problem is my alternator. I have an s14 blacktop and my alternator just stopped working and I wanted to see if i could get a wiring diagram to see if i might have crossed wires. I did a starter check, battery check and alternator check about a month ago and everything was good. so thats the only lead I have. can any body help. sure would appeciate it>

if your not getting any power from your alternator you need to check the 100 amp fuse thats bolted down under the cover of your engine bay. you'll see the big fuse box with the rows of big fuses. the big blue 100amp. check that and make sure its not blown. it may have shorted when you installed the alternator or during the swap. happens. if you need to replace it, it will not come out like others. you need to take the whole strip out (that holds the big fuses) and unbolt a 12mm on top of the strip and 2 10mm on each side of the fuse. you can get a replacement fuse at kragen/orielly or any autoparts store for $5.

hey reborn, firs and foremost: thanks for your reply.
when my alternator gave out the fuse your mentioning to me, i replaced just to see if that was the problem. It wasnt. I kind of took a look at the alternator from up top n dont really know how many wires suppost to go to the alternator. I can see two thick wires which are the pos. that goes to the batt. and the negative. there is another cable that comes out of the alternator n im guessing that might be the problem but have no idea if it is one solid cable or several small cables that might conduct current to different electronics. do you guys know what that third cable does and or maybe have a wiring diagram for the alternator?

search sr20 fsm (factory service manual) on the forum or google. it'll have the diagram(s) you're asking about.

theres a plug that goes to the ecu, theres the power wire that goes to the 12v battery. and theres a ground wire. thats it.
if the fuse it good then you need a test light to see whats not working. can only be the ground or 12v. the 12v wire can get tricky. there's a plastic ring around the terminal where the thick wire goes too. make sure its seated properly. sometimes they even break off and that's how you get the blown fuse, cause it'll ground itself and blow. only 1 plug, a ground and 12v. so check that.

okay got it. so the third cable is a single one and it goes directly to the ecu. there isnt 3 or 2 wires running out of that same hook up? in my wiring theres like three wires that go to that third hook up and i fairly new at this so im kinda scared that the remedy will be worse than the problem ( ifi i mess with the wiring cause lets face it im no electrician) lol

but ill definitely check that when the sun comes up. seems preety easy.
easier than taking off the alternator and taking it in to test it.
