View Full Version : To Vent or Not to Vent that is the Question?

like it states. I have an HKS SSQV series 3 the newest one. I also had a slight boost leak on my cold pipe which has been repaired guess that is why I was losing some power and not experiencing any stumbling. The system has since been sealed and all open connections closed.

Now when I started it up first thing is stumbles as the rpms raise for normal start up then levels out till it gets warm. However when I rev it of course it kicks the air out the BOV to the atmosphere and thus will stumble not die. It is more noticeable when the car is cold under normal loads and when warm it is not that bad. I also will occasionally get the MAF half fart backfire thing. It is not like a real backfire but a burp caused from the MAF reading the air volume wrong.

So please tell me should I recirc or vent my valve? No comments about the type of BOV I use since I do not want to change it but do you all recirc or vent straight out into the atmosphere?

I've had both vented and recirc'd.

Recirc'd isn't as loud when it releases pressure, but the car runs better.

I like recirc'd.

Don't vent metered air to atmosphere. On most applications with the MAF before the turbo, you should recirc.

Some people put the MAF between the BOV and TB. This would be ok to vent to atmosphere.

This has been discussed 1000s of time by all people with turbo cars and BOVs. I can't see how this could go anywhere that hasn't already been discussed or covered by someone else since 1964

Atomshperic vs. Recircs..that debate should be done for. Its obvious when it can be vented and when it shouldnt be..
But like theyve been saying..dont vent metered air or move the location of the MAF

Now the new debates have been

BOV vs NON BOV...but we wont go there seeing has how you obivously want to retain your BOV..

blow through maf = problem solved

put the maf in the cold pipe a couple inchs or more from the throttle body and put the bov anywhere in front of the maf whether it be closer to the intercooler on the cold side or anywhere on the hot side...however i have found that the bov responds a little faster being on the cold side.
