my motor is an s13 blacktop sr20det. megan manifold, bings elbow, front mount.

okay so the other night my ignitor chip finally shit the bed and my car would switch between three cylinders and four cylinders every few seconds. when this happened, my car also started running really rich. my wide band was reading 10, and staying there, so it was even lower then that. my car also started spitting after 3000rpm. maybe my timing has changed?

yesterday I got a new ignitor chip and that solved the number one cylinder not firing. however, my car still runs super rich. I also had a huge hole in my turbo elbow, so I figured it may have been my o2 sensor getting a bad reading due to excessive exhaust leak. i put a new elbow in yesterday aswell and still no change.

I'm thinking my maf or o2 sensor may have died. I'm hoping somebody on here has had a similar problem and can maybe point me in the right direction.

add on:

it also has a rough idle (rev hunting) and it almost stalls when i come to a stop.

add on:

another thing I just remembered. when I first start my car, it runs lean for a few seconds, then goes down to around 14.7 for a few more seconds, and then drops to 10 an lower all the sudden. if I shut my car off, wait a minute and restart it, it does the same thing again.

does the exhaust give a strong smell of burning fuel? any smoke? maybe one of ur injector o-ring is bad? check ur injector o-rings for tears or breaks

my exhaust is blowing wicked dark smoke and smells very very rich. my wideband is reading 10 and below. it's just weird because this happened at the same time my ignitor chip shit the bed and made my number one cylinder not consitently fire.

my ecu also doesn't show any lights while running, and i can't get the lights to blink when i try to do the diagnostic procedure. maybe my ecu got toasted?

if u got the dark smoke it could be ur coolant temp sensor...
the rough idle i had it was the spark plug gap...
the fuel we get in the states...really suk too

yea i was thinking of checking the coolant temp sensor. it's a damn pain to get to though, but i'll definately take a look.

could the spark plug gap suddenly change though? even though my car ran fine before this whole predicament? i also only run 91 octane if that makes any difference.

thanks though!

Check o-ring injectors

Check o-ring injectors
yeah that too..
just unplug the injectors pull off the rail
light a cig..
then switch on the ignition to see if the o-rings leak
when the rail pressurizes

I may be retarded, but wouldn't leaky injectors cause the car to run lean? I'm probably going to answer my own question, but I assume that they'd leak into the cylinder? haha.

check your maf.

yea I checked my maf, and it seemed to be reading proper voltage. I've got a spare o2 sensor I'm going to swap in. I'm also going to re-check for boost/vaccuum leaks.

if it was something wrong with my ecu, would my car just not run at all?

leaky injector=extra fuel=what you smell. have you checked them?

and can u borrow someones ecu to test it? a stock sr one will work.

i read your other thread...

yea i'm going to check injectors after work tomorrow. if it is them, they must be pouring a ton of gas into my motor because the fuel ratio pretty much never changes when at idle or driving.

a buddy of mine is also going to let me borrow his ecu i believe. i'm hoping its something simple, like the chips in my current ecu just messed up, and all i have to do is buy a new ecu.

thanks again.

report back when this is done!

all fixed now. there was two problems. my o2 sensor had shit the bed and was stuck on lean so it was feeding too much fuel to the motor. the next issue, i don't know how i missed this the few times i checked. there was a damn hole in my intercooler piping coupler right off of the turbo. i still can't believe i missed it.

car runs good now but i think my spark plugs are pretty much finished after running the car rich soo much while i was figuring the issue out.

thanks for all the help though people!
