i recently am trying to get my car running after a full build on my s13 sr20. im using 740cc injectors, ISIS FPR, and walbro fuel pump and a haltech Platinum sport 1000. im using a base map from steveshadows trying to get my engine started.
problem:
when i try to prime the fuel system, the fuel pump would not shut back off. i was trying to figure out why it would not shut off. after cranking the engine a few times the fuel pump decides to switch off like normal. i thought everything was ok.
i try to turn the motor over again and it stays back on. problem did not go away.
now, here is the weird part. i never encountered something like this before. i turn the key to the on position to let the pump prime again and all of a sudden i can here a clicking noise coming from the driver side fuse block. it constantly keeps clicking on and off, making the fuel pump turn on and off also. i know there is a seperate fuel pump relay in that area of the fuse box somewhere.
there are 3 relays on the fuse box itself. 2 blue ones and 1 black one. one of the blue relays keeps clicking. i know the fuel pump relay is connected to the M4 plug in the kick panel but thats not where the clicking is coming from. i can feel it clicking from that relay on the fuse block.
could this be a ignition relay of some sort cause the fuel pump to not click off? maybe the relay is bad? i havent switched out for a good one but i will tonight.
PROBLEM #2:
as i was cranking the motor over for a dry start to prime the oil system, the starter seemed to be very weak or was having a hard time cranking the motor over. i took the spark plugs out of the motor and starter had no problems cranking the motor. i even turned the motor over by hand and it felt smooth like butter. so i put the plugs back in and the starter still was having a hard time turning the motor over. i noticed my battery going low so i switched it out for a fully charged one. cranked the motor again with same results. the starter is brand new from mishimoto. should i dry start the motor some more?
