SR timing/idle fun

so basically.. i found out that there was exhaust gas leaking into my cooling system.

i pulled the head had it decked new headgasket and arp studs.

installed, cool fun starts up cooling seems fine 151 compression on all 4 cylinders.

but the car is like idling at 1000 then 800 and back and forth.

if i turn the idle up or down it does the same thing .

went to do the timing and it wouldnt stay steady.

marks keep moving around so i cant get it accurate at all its really pissing me off because it was driving just fine before i took head off and changed gasket and stuff.


any ideas please?

Also the ecu is throwing code 55.

aka nothing.

when you check timing remember its with the tps unplugged.

check your tps also, as that may screw up the idle.

magine that this picture is what the back of your TPS wiring harness looks like as it's plugged into the TPS:

What you need to do is get a DVM and hook the positive lead through the back of the harness into "B" and hook the negative lead through the back of the harness into "A". It's easiest if you straighten a couple of paper clips (I used my wife's sewing needles...she nearly killed me) and shove them into the openings and hook onto 'em with alligator clips, but *DON'T* let them touch. Turn the ignition on (don't start the car) and check the voltage between "A" (-) and "B" (+). It should be between 0.45 and 0.55V. If it's not, you'll need to loosen (but not remove) the two screws or bolts that hold the TPS to the throttle body. Rotate the TPS until you get the proper voltage and tighten the screws, making sure it doesn't go out of adjustment when you tighten it down. As a final check, open the throttle all of the way. You should read around 4V. If so, great! If not, uh...my condolences.(this is not my work i copy pasted it)

yeah.. ive already tried adjusting the tps though =\ and it was running fine before i took everything off and put it back on...

any other thoughts guys?

SR with pistons and rods but stock everything else.

Car seems to be running super lean right now too, im not driving it and they are brand new spark plugs too....

its just been idling while im trying to figure out this problem

so is your tps adjusted correctly?

are you sure you re-installed cams, chain, and CAS correctly?

or simply vac leak?

I know i installed cams and chain correctly.

cas im like 90% sure.

and it sort of seems ilke a vac leak but if i hold down the gas pedal at like 3000 rpms itll do the same bullshit with the idle.

Well you can close this..

i unhooked my battery over night.

then took my intake manifold off unplugged everything plugged everything back in put manifold back on.

started it up still did it a little bit but not too bad.

drove it around the block and stuff for like 10 minutes

pretty much stopped.... lol
