Sorry if this is the wrong category or if this has been asked and answered already. I'm doing this on my phone so hold off the flaming please lol.
My question is, has anyone ever mounted a vg trans to an rb in an s13?
I've heard the bellhousing for the rb25 will bolt up perfect and that the gears are the same, only difference is that the shifter sits about 4 and 1/2 inches farther back than the rb25 trans.
For those that have done it...
How has it worked for you?
Was it as easy as mounting an rb25 trans?
What crossmember did you use?
Did you leave the shifter where it sits or did you make a linkage to bring the shifter t the original ka shifter position?
Thanks for any opinions and replies

that's what i have on my 280z in my sig. i actually used a rb26 bellhousing because it was given to me free. either one will work but for the 26 bellhousing i had to tap & thread 2 holes because this particular 26 bellhousing was for a pull type clutch. so it had 2 places to tap/thread at the bottom. so for a slave cylinder i used a 91 maxima iirc since both holes are at the bottom. if you use a 25 bellhousing then a regular s13 or s14 slave will work and no tap/threading is necessary.
as far as the shifter....we just cut an inch or so out of the stock linkage, then welded it back together. we also cut the shifter down about an inch or so then welded it back together so you can still screw a shift knob on top, it's a nice little short shifter :)
i would suggest that you also get new nylon shifter bushings from nissan, they're like 2 or 3 bucks a piece if that, you need 2.
you may get lucky and not break the gasket but if you do, get a front pump gasket for a z32 (vg30). the front pump is that aluminum piece that the throw out bearing slides on that bolts to the inside of the tranny. you gotta take it off so you can pop the c-clips out of the front so once you take the bolts out of the middle, you can slide the bell housing off the rest of the tranny.
perma-tex GREY or honda-bond work well to seal it back together.
i like the z32 tranny better than the rb25 because A. you can find one for half the price of an rb25. B you CAN move the shifter around to get it where you want/need it. C. i prefer the feel of shifting the linkage vs the drop in shifter on the rb25 trans. it feels more precise to me, but other people may like the drop in better. to each his on on that one.
take care,
Dave
