Hello members,

I just recently bought a "Silforty" SR20 93 HB (my first 240sx). While driving home from the sellers house, I notice that the steering was pretty stiff. When I got home, I checked the PS resevoir and it was pretty empty and noticed a leak coming from the PS Pump. Today, I refilled the resevoir. When I turned on the car, I was turning the steering wheel and the PS Pulley was making a noise, then when I shut the car off the pulley came loose.

Here is what I found:

This is the washer that was on the pulleys shaft. Its destroyed and I think thats where the fluid was leaking from.

The location of the washer.

My questions are:

1) Where can I buy this washer and what part number is it?
2) What is the name of the washer?
3) Is the washer necessary or can I install the pulley right back for now?
4) What is the other pulley that the PS pulley's belt connected to?
5) Do I need to do something before installing it back on?
6) Can I start the car without the pulley and belt on?

Forgot to mention that the PS pump was replaced in 2007. I have the receipt for it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Ok for one i would goto like a napa auto store and see what they got. They can get you your part number.

Your powersterring is turned by your crankshaft, if you can find a custom belt that will fit snug around everything but your sterring pump that will work, but you just wont have power sterring and you might build some strong arms haha.

What else is your belt connected to? I wouldnt drive the car if its spinning some thing else. If yous till got the recipt why not return the pump if possible from the store he bought it from or just get a new one where he got it.

It will go back on just as you took it off

I'm a little dirty right now, but you need a new power steering pump! The shaft is not supposed to come out like that. On the other side of that pulley there should be a nut that is used to remove the pulley from the shaft. And I think that's seal not a washer. excuse me if I'm way way way way wrong!

Sounds like the pumps dead...get another pump.

Exactly. That washer is snap ring that holds the main shaft into the pump, you've pulled the entire shaft out so if it was loose the bearings are now damaged. Just replace the pump.
