View Full Version : SR20 Exhaust is back firing when shifting.
I have a 95 S14 with the SR20. Mods are just intake, 3' DP and Megn cat back exhaust. Everytime I shift 1,2,3 my muffler makes a popping sound.
Its obviously backfiring and seems to be getting slighty worse over time.
Any ideas on how to stop this?

Do you have an atmospheric BOV? just a thought

Not sure what u mean by "atmospheric"...
But, the bov is all stock

He meant if your bov goes phssss :naughty: loudly. Naw he means if it's venting out and not recirculating back in to the motor.

ha ha dude that thing is not recirculating!! s14 sr20 has the recirculating hose from cold pipe, over the valve cover, then back to intake pipe... your motor does not have it...

i have the same set up on my sr megan elbow megan d/p megan 3'' and i get back fires on shifts 2 - 3 - 4 and than back down 4 - 3 - 2 but this is because im runing rich and i havnt had the time to have my car tuned again. Get your car tuned and see where that does.
do you have a catalytic converter on your car i threw mine back on because of the slight back fire i get and it helped out
I do have a cat on it. Im thinking it might be running a tad rich

a little bit rich can be good though, helps keep the cylinders cool. plus, do you guys really not like backfiring? I don't know of any repercussions from it and I love the sound lol.

runing rich is better than runing lean. some people might like the sound of it but it gets old fast. next week im having my car retuned and i hope it goes away..

true about the cops, I don't have to worry about that hear as far as I know though. We don't have any smog or noise regulations etc.
I hear you on the noise getting old though lol; no cat, 4-2-1 to 3" pipe to a muffler all by itself is loud lol, needless to say, I will be doing some sound deadening soon.
