So today I tried to get my KA24de in the 240, but im missing a passenger side motor mount....AAAHHHHHH! So I said fuck the 240 and started working on the 7 after sitting for a whole year. I got the motor out of the car and tore it apart. This is my first rotary rebuild and i feel 100% confident on the rebuild. Its already 10x easier than rebuilding an SR...lol . Tomorrow i will clean it and fix the port job I got from a local rx7 builder. I was a little suspec on what kind of porting i got. The inside of the ports look good, but the shape of the large street port looks iffy. i will be fixing this in the next few days. I already ordered RA super 3mm apex seals and pineapple racing heavy duty gasket set. After the initial tear down we suspected to had warped seals after a long session on the dyno at PFsupercars. The car sounded like it lost compression, but it still made 421hp @ 16psi. Well that wasnt the case. One of the apex seals actually broke at the corner and it didnt tear the engine to pieces. I drove it like that for a good month and 2 events.....What a dummy!!!

the first session at PF. This dyno session left the engine with warpped apex seals, but I still drove it for about 4 months.

This was after the second rebuild with low compression and a suspec apex seal failure:

Second time ever drifting this 420hp horse with no powersteering, a t78, and most important lack of skills.

YouTube - BUZZZN 12A Bridgeported RX7 GIlmer Drive Rev (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UueSVbVdJlU)

WTF is that...

A bridgeport would kill any down low torque I need to drift this car. I will have a large streetport and a borg warner s362 powering this car. I will also be adding a water/meth system, so hopefully it turns about 500hp.

To the 240 comment:

I have owned about 15 240's and have always liked them. about 2 years ago I sold my kouki and bought this FD. i said the same thing when I was 240less. I got an FD now who needs a 240, but I missed my car and I bought a coupe to learn how to slide on. Im ready to play with the big boys now and hopefully this Fd will last me til the end of this year.

I tried my hands on a little porting today. I stopped by harbor freight to pick up some sanding tools. I also found carbide bit a true value hardware store for a decent price.

Today I was going to clean all the parts in a partd washer to start engine assembly and found both rotors to be in paper weight shape. This truely sucks because I has these rotors weighted and clearenced for 3mm apex seals during my first build. Im lucky that I had bought a spare engine from jeremy a while back and I took it apart today and the rotors are usuable.

The following pictures are damaged rotors from detonation. It could have came from unburt fuel in the combution chamber.

Front rotor:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2732/4441409409_5a03d25bdd.jpg

Rear rotor:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2745/4442190700_b8b30396ed.jpg

Both rotors:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2733/4442193152_db532fab06.jpg

Dont know exactly when this happend, but i suspect it was after a long dyno session at PFsupercars. The car was on the dyno for a long time and after the last pull the engine changed pitch and it had low compression. Im gonna get the other two rotors I have and installed 2mm apex seals back in. I dont want to deal with 3mm apex seals again.

I just love how the current generation of 240 owners just shit on them. Sorry Eric, you knew your comment had this coming. LOL

Oh and the are only the armpit because the current generation of owners makes them that way. LOL

Oh and I will say it. I like 240's! Why the hell would I even still own one if I didn't. LOL

Seriously FD's are dope and bad ass cars. Though if the 240sx fastback had come to the U.S. with the SR a lot of you would just not be talking shit.

There is a reason why the 180sx was the most popular sports car ever sold in Japan.

240's are not shit cars. Americans 240 owners who shit on 240's are shit and make their cars shit for shitting on them.

Oh and just for the naysayers stock S13 Fastbacks pulled .89 on the skidpad. That is not shabby for a 15k new car 1990. Its still not bad for a stock new car today.

Oh and yes now you can buy a newer car that is nicer. Though if you feel that way, why would you even be here in the first place? LOL

OP your FD is dope and I see you share love for the 240 as well.

I love S13. Ive had a few. Not enough dope shit to be in a car show with kitted out over aggressive flares, but stock body with OEM lip kits and a nice offset. Long as it runs, im good. Real big fan of the drift scene, but not big fan on drifting my own. If you guys get what i mean.

Loving the FD though man, someday i hope ill get the balls to build a rotary motor. Just seeing my friend go through trial and error and having his car sit in the garage like your's for over a year is like...blah.. i cant have that.

He went 13B with webers, beast mode on the street but wayyyy too loud.

I will be running 255 35 18 rears and 215 40 17 front. We will see how this set up works at drift water. I think we might have some understeering issues with a small tire up front. Might go up to a 235 40 front depending on how it handles on track.

Next set of pictures will be AEM injectors welded to the intercooler piping and the Bosch 044 pump install later this week.

Car made 381 @ 12 psi which Im totally happy with. Ray @ PFsupercars did a fantatic job tuning this car. Something is wrong with the water meth setup, so we didnt use it. We figured that with the water meth and new setup we could probably hit 480 @ 18 psi. Im gonna enjoy driving it like this all summer then go back in october and make some serious power. For now im happy and Im aactually gonna be driving it after 2 years of not being able to.

Since i didnt have time to make springfest I took the time today to take care of a few more imperfections on the body and spray the car. Overall im very satisfied with the out come. Black has got to be the hardest paint to do in a make shift garage booth. After about 2 hrs of spraying base then clear I got the out come I wanted and spent less than $300 in materials and paint. A few bugs decided to swim in the clear coat, but sanding and buffing will hopefully get rid of that.

Final ride height has not been set yet, but it looks promising!!! The fortune coilovers on the FD can go stoopid low. I still have to install the BNsport kit from chaserauto and then we will see what ride height will be best for track use!!!! Im going for pure function but at the same time Im not gonna lame it out.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c333/ballinnmiami240sx/FD3s/IMG_0410-1.jpg?t=1305597199

Paint just finished drying on the kit and overall im satisfied with the out come. The kit had a lot of pin holes and I tried to fill most of the, but I dont have the patience of a real body man. it looks perfect from 10ft. at 10mph and thats what i wanted. This car will look rough after the first event which will be Driftwater11. right now the car has to be raised about 1" for me to be able to even get out of my house....lol Knoop will probably tell me to leave it!

Still gotta completely fit it to the body and install all the lights. I gotta order the 99spec lamps and fix my passenger headlight cover. All in all I super happy I finally get to drive this car. Might be out and about this weekend in Va beach!!!

Drifted the hell out it. The rain got the better of me in the AM. The front/rear bumper are trashed but will be fixed sometime this week. My alingment was worse than i thought and the car felt sketchy once power was induced. Over all the engine is amazing and sounded super dope. The only problems I had engine wise was lots of blow by. Gotta install an oil catch can and this should solve the problem.

I was lucky enough to get all the pieces that broke off the kit. I should have listened to my wife and taken the kit off. Now I have to re-fiberglass the bumper, use fiberfiller, and re-paint it. Could have been worse!!

super awesome, how does the FD drift compared to a s chassis?

right now it sucks because its not set up. Other wise from not driving it for about 2yrs. it was dope. Power on tap and more angle was awesome. The car switched back way faster than my coupe.

My old coupe same track freshly built stock SR:

The FD has about 150 more hp right now.

I love FDs as much as the next guy and wanted to get one until I hung out with some guys that owned some and said it was a love hate relationship and that FD meant Financial Disaster mainly because they always breakdown and the parts are more expensive than a 240. They are nice though...

When you own an rx7 you better know how to build the engine and not be a a shop to shop dummy. Thats how people get raped owning an FD. Other than this the car is like any other car. If you want it to last spent some loot up front and you'll have not problems. Parts do tend to be more than the S-chassy.

It seems that FD's do not get much angle when they drift.
They sure look cool though.

My compliments, I don't think I've seen luminous yellow 57's pulled offed so nicely on a single color paint job. Love it!

Looking to become a converted rotard here in about 3 months.

looked at the picture knoop posted and I didnt like the front stance due to the body kit being so long. I decided to copy what Stephen "wishihadasilvia" did and take 1" of the body kit, so Ill be able to lower the car for more clearance and avoid having to do this again. I wont be making hyperfest this year and possibly eastcoastbash. Since I dont have any other events planned I decided to do this.

Looking at those pictures make my hands and arms itch.

Interested to see the final product. Weirdly enough, first time hearing someone shortening their aero to get lower.

Bumper for a fellow FD owner, good to see you picked up your hopes on the RX7 again. I may tear down my motor soon and rebuild it, despite it being in good condition right now.
