I wrote a nice response and when I hit reply, got the error 404...DAMN.

Sometimes the site is slower than mollasses and I have a super connection. Right now it is super fast...I know, I know...traffic load.

Question, what other sites (not their names but how many) is sharing this server. Had it happen 5 times now so I am writing stuff in Micro/word and doing copy past. It is a pain in the a$$.

Perhaps we need to do a donation drive to help pay for faster service. Banners are lame on pay...but if we took up a drive for every member to donate 5 dollars for bandwidth improvement for 6 months, no mass exodus, just a fund drive like PBS does and set up an ad campaign...I would give to the site as a donation...

But in truth, you can have platnum, gold and silver memebers that give 100/50/25 bucks to fund the server requirements.

Forgive if I am wrong, but how is the biz behind the server and banners doing? Who is throttling the server? (I know, I run 3 servers).

I have noticed the same thing. The server has had some really slow periods of late. I wrote 2 or 3 rather lengthy responses only to have them lost in cyberspace and the site die on me. Then I just gave up. Next time I came on I just didn't have the enthusiasm to rewrite my brilliant essays over again. Sucks to be brilliant and have nobody to notice.

There are about 10+ other small sites running on this server, Its a server for our Biz so of course its got other things running on it. Yesterday I was installing a new version of virus scan and it required about 3 reboots so the server was down intermittently for almost 45 min. It seems Perl.exe is executing 10+ processes at a time and it causing the CPU utilization to be 100%, I thought it could have been a virus so that's why I did that. Turns out its clean so I have to find out what is causing Perl to do this.

I have been looking into a dedicated server for a few of the sites I run here. Specifically a Dell PowerEdge 600SC Server. They run specials on them and you can get them for rather cheap ever so often. Although we would probably get a better price off Ebay for the same thing. Typically $1k server would get us something very good. Of course if we did get donations we could use the money we received for any type of server, it doesn't have to be brand new.

If people really feel the server is becoming to loaded (which it does get sometimes) I can setup a donations page again like we did to get vBulletin software long ago. :) I dont really like asking for money, but I guess its a good cause and for the benefit of the user.
