Here is a ROUGH draft of the Rb20det Quest Alternator Install.

Things needed.
1. Tools.
-Welder
-Grinder
-Cut off wheel
-Basic tool set

2. Quest 110AMP Alternator
3. Quest Alternator bracket

-Of course the first thing needed to be done, is take the rb20det alternator out. It is very easy to do with the motor in the car. * When removing, you are going to want to keep all the parts together, some will be used again.

First we took out the spacer/washer thing that is in the end of the rb20det alternator, thinking we had to change them out.. DO NOT DO this. Leave it in. It will need to be drilled out. I do not know why people say change them out. THEY DO NOT EXCHANGE.

-The very next thing we did was took the rb20det alternator lower bolt hole and drilled it out with a 3/8 drill bit.
Then we took the rb20det alternator spacer and grinded a side flat. So with the new 3/8 hole, and the spacer grinded down, the stock rb20det alternator bolt now fits with out any problems. Please note that the spacer does not need to be drilled out, just a side grinded.

The Rb20det Alternator Spacer grinned down.

The stock rb20det alternator bolt should go threw the Quest alternator like so.

Next thing that should be done is test fitted the Quest Alternator to its new home. It should look something like this.

Next up is modifying the stock rb20det bracket to fit the quest alternator!!!!

Cut the Quest alternator “slider” area about 2 to 3in. Please refer to the picture. In the picture, the top piece is the “slider” I am going to refer to it as “piece 1.” The bottom is a little piece we just cut off the end of the Quest Alternator, and I am going to refer to it as , “piece 2.”. Both pieces are needed. The bottom piece(piece 2) will need to be cut/trimmed as you feel needed.

-Ok, now that you have your shinny new pieces cut. Its time to weld them up. Its not all about pretty welds here. Mock up your pieces you cut off the Quest Alternator brake. Should look something like this.

Piece 1

Piece 2.

-Cut as needed, get it to fit nice. Mine has alittle gap inbetween piece 1 and 2.

-Next would be to weld the pieces together. At 2 places, please refer to the pictures…. Red lines is where it will need to be welded. I also welded the bottom of the pieces as well.

When installing the belt make sure it is on the 3 rips close to the alternator.

After you weld it together, install the bolts, and belt. Your done. Do Not forget the 14mm nut on the rb20det alternator bolt (the one that has the spacer, and you had to drill out). This took 2 guys around 3 hours to do. In a driveway, in the cold....at night...taking pictures...I am sure you can do better. =)

Hope This Helps!

No, you do not need this alternator unless you have alot of electronics running. As far as battery, you can never go wrong with Optimas relocated to the trunk.

You dont need this mod. Get a Optima Yellowtop and you'll be good. As far as your fans, invest on a good fan controller and dont bother trying to wire it yourself from scratch with a relay. I'm always partial to Flex-a-Lite fan controllers, heard DIF are pretty good too.

Shouldnt have to change the fuse. If you're blowing the main fuse, check to make sure the plastic spacer to the main power stud isnt gone.
