Hi guys.

I am rebuilding my engine, s14 SR20DET. Had the last build make [email protected], and used Eagle rods on that engine.

I was planning to use Eagles again - didnt have any problems with them, and they are in like new condition, but my power aims have grown, and reading around the net, iam not entierly sure - should i stay or should i go (to a diffrent rod).

I know there are some of you pushing ove 500hp (Jez)..... What rods are you using ???

I am converting to Solid lifter Tomei's, and have a GT3582, wich i plan to push to get [email protected], if i can.

I was recomanded CARRILLO as being the best, though they only cost about 3 times more then the Eagles.

What do you think ?

Have anyone hear of any failuers with the Eagles ?

Also i read that it is recomaded to redo the Big end, for roundness on the Eagles, though i had a few sets in the past, and never had a problem. Obviously when the caps are tourqed down, the big end roundness depends on the torque used.

Did anyone had to do this on their rods ?

Thanks.

Carrillo's are very strong rods, and yes you'll have to fork out quite a bit more money for them. There are a few other types of rods out there that you can select from without having to pay for the name on Carrillo though.

The crank end of the rod can get distorted from being trq'd down. Usually that can be corrected with a line hone/bore. The same goes for the mains when using ARP's. They should be line/bored as well, but many people get away without doing it, which may reduce longetivity.

Manley Turbo Tuff's are good as well.

I would def recommend Carillo or Manley. The saying "you get what you pay for". Some might say that your paying for the name, but the reason a name is worth so much is because of the quality that comes with the name. I think that car parts are something you dont wanna cut corners on, Carrillos are "appr" 600 more than eagles but if you have a rod failure the total cost of damage is going to end up being more than 600 to repair!

Tomei rods will handle 600hp. But they are pricy. Pauter's are real good also you can look into to buying those.

They actualy had a price reduction on many SR parts - including rods.
It used to be around 1100-1200$, but it only about 800$.

I am leaning towards the Tomei's - i think they are the best value for money, just as long as i can get some authentic ones and not some fakes, as i saw are going around...

I'm running Eagle Rods...supposed to be good enough to 700-800hp range. My car will never see that range, not on an SR atleast.
