Hello
I just bought a SR20DET engine from JMI. I decided to replace the head gasket.
DIY: SR20DET Head Removal by Mrzabala: SR20DET Forum (rear-drive): Nissan Forums / Infiniti Forums - NICOclub (http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/254179)
I followed the DIY listed above. I set the engine to No1 at TDC as shown in the DIY. When i saw the timing chain i could not see the silver links on the timing chain corresponding to the camshaft marks. I triple check to make sure the No1 was TDC. So i decide to just mark the chain with a black marker. After reassembly of the head back on to the block. The timing chain marks dont line up at all. After close inspection of the chain, i have found the silver links but they are not in the right position with the black marked links. Both the black marked links and the silver links do not line up to where it is supposed to be. I can not seen to get the chain to move properly to get the chain in the right position.
Is there an easier way to realine the timing chain with out pulling every think apart?
Do i have to pull off the oil pump to reline the timing chain or is there an easier way? To remove the oil pump i have to remove the oil pan too right??
Should i line up the camshaft marks on the silver links? or should i line it back to the black marks I made?
Pics. Red is the silver links. Green is the black marked links.
