Things you should know: I have already bypassed the clutch switch and clutch interlock relay. Starter is around a month and a half old/ignition switch is a few months old and both have been working great.

So in terms of where this all started I was driving home from a party on Christmas day and my engine just shut off right as I was about to make a turn, lights stayed on. Ended up being that the ignition switch fuse had blown and the car started fine. I got the car into the driveway and let it run for a few minutes then shut it off and decided to start it again just to double check. This time the starter didn't shut off after I let off the key, even after I shut off the engine it kept going(keys were still in the ignition though) and it did the same thing when I tried today.

I have to disconnect the negative bat cable to get it to shut off, although today AS I WAS unbolting the terminal it shut off. It still had 12 volts and the terminal wasn't very loose yet, but who knows, maybe it was just barely loose enough.

Is there anything besides the ignition switch controlling the starter since the clutch switch and clutch interlock relay are bypassed? Think the ignition switch is just wigging out?

Thanks,
Fred

The starter solenoid is being energized somehow. I would check the front left fender harness first. Most likely you rubbed through and the starter solenoid wire is getting power.

...that harness affects the starter? I thought the front left was just headlights and accessories? I checked and I do have some rub on it.

That's where the starter solenoid wire runs.

ohh, by chance do you remember what color it is?

K, so I fixed all of the shorted wires except the tiny 16ga orange/blue stripe. Even after that the starter still would not disengage. So I decided to start the car and then pull the starter signal wire(the black one with a plug going to the starter); even then it continued to run...so I suppose the starter solenoid is sticking? There isn't anything else left is there?

Well I just ordered a new starter/solenoid from Oreilly's(I have a lifetime warranty one from there) but it isn't supposed to be in until Tuesday morning, none the less, we'll see what happens.

The starter should only have 2 wires: the solenoid wire and constant power.

When the solenoid wire shows current, the starter pulls power from the thick constant power wire.

Make absolutely sure that there is no short to either wire.

You could always pull the starter and test it.

but I figure the solenoid is sticking because I pulled the signal wire while the starter wire was running and it kept going. It has to be the solenoid then right?

The problem has to do with starter/solenoid unit. Likely a short in the unit. I dont think you can repair it.
