I wanted to post a recap of the progress of my car over the last year. This is all copy and paste from my local forum where the build was originally posted.
A link to my thread on my local forum, lots more pics and ka stuff 240SX.net • View topic - Nissankat's Progress Thread Ls1 s14!!! (http://nissan.240sx.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=141&start=0)
Ill start with some pics of the previous setup and some action shots. The cars primary use is autox and lapping days.

So I cracked a ring land for the second time on the ka and right about that time a buddy of mine called me saying he found this beauty for a hell of a price so I snagged it.

It had 24k on the clock and was owned by a female. A few weeks after I got it I had the motor out looking like this
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b335/nissakat/001-14.jpg
It was very clean on the inside
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b335/nissakat/004-9.jpg
I soon had the Gto parted out and ended up getting the ls1, t56 and all the good for the swap for about 800.
Daft mounts and header came shortly there after.

Next up was the power steering. I wanted to run a power steering cooler but the budget is getting a little low so I came up with something else. I decided to use the cooling loop from the GTO. It was really easy to mount and fit pretty much perfect. I know it is not the best cooler but I think it will be better then not having one at all. Here are some pics. Notice how well the hard lines fit. You can also see the high pressure line I made and wrapped in flame guard since it will be close to the header.

At the dyno I hit my goal of 400 on the first pull so I was very happy. I have to say pcmforless.com does some great mail order tunes. We only had to make some very minor changes on the dyno. We fattened up the fuel a little and added 2 degrees of timing and ended up with 405 on a very safe tune. Just to recap this is with a tsp torquer v2 cam, 4 inch intake, Daft headers, 85mm throttle body and a 15lb chromoly flywheel.

It's been awesome seeing this thing come together over the past year and lending a hand when in town. Your build has been the inspiration for me building my car since the beginning. Super clean and 100% trackable. Looks great as usual. Keep up the good work and keep up posted with your progress (which has been a lot over the past year).

First of all, thanks for all the positive feedback. I'm glad you guys appreciate all the effort that I put into the build of this thing.
If you guys are interested I think I may continue updating this thread as I make progress with the car. I already have a few item that I did not add such as the details of my diff setup.
Sweet build. What are your thoughts of the kat vs the Ls1?

hows it compare to the ka? decimates?
I really loved my kat setup. It made good power and treated me very well but I was always worried about pushing it to hard and blowing it because it was a stock block. With the ls1 I no longer have that worry with its nearly stock status. The ls1 makes an extra 50hp which is nice but I do not see that as its main advantage. The power delivery of the ls1 is just awesome compared to the ka. The power comes on so smooth and controllable from where ever you happen to be in the rev range. On corner exits with the ka I would jam on the pedal and have to wait for the little bit of lag and then the power would hit and rip the tires loose. This is not the case now. I just roll on the pedal and shoot out of the corner. The power is everywhere with the ls making it so that I rarely have to shift. At Roebling I can do the entire track (except the straight) in 4th gear.
just curious, but how much did you end up picking up that gto for?

I got the gto for a whopping $2500. That is why I could not pass up on the deal. I got really lucky because you don't see to many going for that.

That is nauseatingly cheap. I have spent that on my motor/trans set up and it isn't even put together yet :(.
Not that it matters for that price but is it a 5.7 or 6.0 GTO?

Yea it was a killer deal. I wish I could find another. It is a 5.7 but the gto is actually the highest hp ls1 that chevy had. It has an ls6 intake mani stock. I would have loved to have gotten the 6.0 (ls2) but this thing has worked out well and I didn't have to deal with the drive by wire of the ls2.
Now that's a proper car!
Thanks man

I think these are the numbers
The following I believe are NAPA part numbers:
GAT20801
GAT21710
Those are both hoses, not sure which but you will figure it out when you get them.
This is the reducer/sleeve that I used:
GAT26390
Both required a little trimming but none of the cut in the middle and use 90's and all that stuff, just some end trimming. Hope this helps you guys!

All depends on what you're going for, but he is right that your KA-T was one of the cleaner ones out there. It's saddening to see the good KA-T's go down, as it skews the ratio of bad KA-T's :P.
As far as performance, the LS1 is a great motor if that's the style of driving you have. Some guys prefer turbo setups and obviously your previous setup would appeal to some more than others, that's all. Personally, I like turbos, so I probably would have spent the money on building the KA and making 400whp off of that.
Although a project I've been wanting to do was an LSX FC Vert that was smog legal. Unfortunately that's a long way away project. :P

as for the ka vs ls1 debate, I would never go back. If I build another 240 it will be kat for sure. For the lapping days that I like to do the ls1 just cant be beaten. It runs cooler then the kat, has power everywhere and is reliable as can be.

Thanks for the comments. The picked up the Works a few years ago from a vendor on this site.
I have not made any major changes but here is a small update on the work I have done to the car over break.
My passenger wheel bearing had been making a little more noise than it should. After reading this article Project Silvia - The Official Guide to Not Screwing Up Your Wheel Bearings Like I Did > MotoIQ > Magazine Articles (http://www.motoiq.com/MagazineArticles/tabid/59/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/893/Project-Silvia-The-Official-Guide-to-Not-Screwing-Up-Your-Wheel-Bearings-Like-I-Did.aspx) I decided to pull them apart to take a look.
This is what I found
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b335/nissakat/DSCN0989.jpg
You can see the pitting in the race here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b335/nissakat/DSCN0998.jpg
and the discoloration here
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b335/nissakat/DSCN0995.jpg
This bearing is well past it so a new hub and bearing has been ordered from Nissan to replace it. It appears that some moisture had gotten into the bearings or possibly the excess heat from track events had broken down the waxy nissan grease.
The drivers side looked much better
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b335/nissakat/DSCN1001.jpg
so it got disassembled, cleaned and re greased using Neo Synthetic grease. This grease is far superior to the crap nissan uses and it is good to 800 degrees.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b335/nissakat/DSCN1002.jpg
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b335/nissakat/DSCN1003.jpg
When the new passenger side bearing comes in then it will get the same process. Re greasing these is a tedious job but one that I feel will benefit me in the long run given the track time that I plan to put the car through.
........
My new wheel bearing came in and repacked it with the Neo grease.
I also made some new end links for my front sway bar. I am of the understanding that these should result in significant gain by eliminating the rubber bushings. Because of the limited suspension movement of a stiff coil over setup the sway bar does not have much movement to work with. Without the rubber bushings the sway bar is able to immediately begin resisting roll. I guess we shall see if this holds true.

did you just split the 1 fuel feed line into 2 with a T or did u run a second line from the tank back?
great swap dude!

1 side is the feed and the other is the return on my setup. Some high hp people do make a feed and return for each rail. They split the feed and then use the fuel pressure reg as a y for the returns. I don't think I am at that point yet though as I am still on the stock injectors.

I live just outside of Jacksonville. A meet would be cool but I doubt I could make it all the way down to Tampa.

Thanks man. The ducting and rear panel are made out of an Anheuser Busch sign that I acquired. haha I use pieces of that thing everywhere.
The endlinks seem to be working well. I don't know if any noticeable gain came from them but it cant hurt.

I am trying real hard to come up with something and all I have is gas mileage. The ls1 does weigh a bit more but I think that it is more then made up for.

I try to beat on it every chance I get. I could not imagine putting all this effort into and car and not using it for what it was built for.
In fact here are some pics from last weekend at Roebling Road.

Very Nice. Are you actually racing up there. I just do hpde's at the moment but I am dying to do some actual racing. I am in the process of building a spec miata on the cheap so I can get out there and run wheel-to-wheel.

Thanks
I had a one piece al drive shaft for my old ka setup. When I did the ls1 swap I simply bought a t56 yolk on ebay and stuck it on the al shaft. It is a little shorter then it should be (maybe 1/2in) but it works just fine.

My big brother is a diehard Domestic & Euro enthusiast with a penchant for big displacement Detroit engines as well. Even he would love this. Grip racing, not drifting for him. OEM+ look ftw

Thats not bad at all, So does your rear holds the power the ls1's putting out?

I still have it. I just drive it and enjoy it now. I have not changed or repaired anything in the last year. It takes a beating every time I drive it and just keeps on going. There are still a number of things that I would like to do to the car but my focus has moved to my other project, a spec miata. I just got my Scca racing licensee in it a few weeks ago.

Thanks. There is a long ass thread on my local forum that is much more detailed. If your interested, have a look.

On your rear did you put the s15 hlsd in the q45 rear or the q45 gears in the s15 rear,
i like my s15 rear but want less gearing, want the 3.54 gears with hlsd, but do not want to change my axles and hubs like i have seen some do, thanks

They are 17x9 +15 with 255/40s

To be honest, I don't know. I rarely drive it without beating on it. It is probably close to 20.

I actually just put the lsd in the q45 housing. The q45 ring gear actually works out well because the bolts are the correct size. 13mm I believe it is. It is easier to not have to mess with the pinion gear.

do not use those compression fittings! use high pressure hydrolic ones. those aluminum are used for carb setups, they will leak just FYI. use industrial grade
