View Full Version : Building my SR20DET

So my SR20DET had a timing issue and messed up the cams...so rather than ordering a new (used) SR20DET from Japan, I decided to get the current engine built.

It is at the machine shop at the moment and this is what I am adding:

BC 264 cams
BC Ti retainers
BC Valve Springs
BC Valves
Apexi 1.1m HG
CP Pistons .20 overbore 9:0:1 compression
BC Connecting Rods
Clevite Bearings all around
Rocker Arm Stoppers

It already has:

Profec II Boost Controller
Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator
16in Mustang Fan for cooling
Greddy Intercooler

I am getting a rebuild done - head decked, block decked, hot tanked, 3 angle valve job, all new gaskets (mostly OEM), etc.

What kind of power should I be able to reliably put down with this build? I only have the T25 on the moment and still need to add better fuel (injectors, FPR, etc. - already have the Walbro pump) but I do plan to upgrade to a GT28 .64 trim in the future as I want to keep a quick spool for daily driving.

This will not be a track car. Its mainly for DDing. I may run it at the track once or twice to get the times, but I'm not too worried about that.

What else should I add to make this reliable? Anything I may be missing?

Thanks...just looking for input from those more experienced than I. :>

I'll start posting pics as soon as I get some time.

Well stock SR with T25 is probably good for like ~230-240 whp at 14 psi.

With the cams, that will certainly increase.

With the Gt2871R and those mods, you will probably put down around 300 ft-lbs at 17-18 psi and maybe like 340 whp.

The stock intake mani may limit your ability to make torque/power out past 6500 RPMS....it will probably start to fall off around there

With that build, what could one reliably put down without risking damaging the internals?

I'm aiming for 300-400HP in the next 6 months, but I want the engine to be as reliable as possible.
