So here is the style windage tray that was at one point in my Redtop SR20DET if I remember correctly

Now I need a new one for the motorbuild and a guy pulled this one out of his Redtop SR20DET. The shape looks the same but the venting or lack of is different.

Anyone have a reason why?

Moral of the story is never take out any part to install another part. Dont listen to other peoples shit advice.

I brought up this same question a few years ago on FA, and the general consensus was that the tray itself varries between all sr20 types. Blacktop s13, VVL and S15 have solid lower trays, while s14, redtop, and FWD motors all have the 'vented' pan.
I went with the vented pan, but I also installed a crank scraper at the same time.

Home (http://www.crank-scrapers.com)
Specifically: Datsun-Nissan (http://www.crank-scrapers.com/Datsun-Nissan.html)
You'll need to remove both pans, and the girdle however for the entire kit. I would strongly suggest pulling the motor to do this, however it is possible in car...not suggested tho!

GL... its a bit*h to get that upper pan back on a seal correctly when the motor is still in the car. Much easier that pulling a KA oil pan though.
